Country: | Hello Fellow MP frustrated Users I have been trying to solve running qty 2 Nova-T 500s for qty 4 tuners with no luck. Been searching both Hauppauge and MP Forums desperate for any suggestions. I thought I would point out the following for any other users reading this thread... Since Hauppauge shipped its first NOVA-T 500 I purchase several to get two cards 4 tuners working. I never had a problem with 1 Nova-T 500 working 2 tuners recording at the same time. As a work around I used Qty 1 Nova-T 500 and Qty 1 HVR 1300 (NOT setting up the analog tuner but just the Digital (freeview one)) for a total of 3 tuners recording at the same time. I got this working in 4 computers 3 are XP Pro and 1 in XP MCE. No problems what so ever. After reading the above thread I dled dimetriuS second posting of dvbfix.zip (121.0 KB, 178 views) which installed just fine as suggested it would BUT makes no difference in trying to get Qty 2 Nova-T 500's working together in MP or Hauppauge software for a qty 4 tuners. In fact Hauppauge sw does not tune it any tv channels but MP works as the BEST HTPC software available!

afaik the reason for all the troubles is the card/drivers itselfe and not the TV-software you are using.

Thanks for such a quick reply. I must agree with you as I have a thread in Media Portal which pointed me to this thread where I question the same as your reply. I think it is really bad that Hauppauge own software cannot get 1 card with 2 cards (two tuners out of four working) installed in the computer working whereas Media Portal does...... Once again Media Portal shows itself to be the only true HTPC software to be used by a serious builder! Thanks for your input as your posting is the first posting that confirms what I feel is the correct answer..... Now the question! Do you know of another dual tuner that will work with the Nova-T 500 for a qty 4 tuners in Media Portal? I got my MP working great on 4 computers ( 2 of them are my daughters computers) but I do want to have a total of 4 tuners in one computer to save on power ie not running two computers to have more than 3 tv programs to be recorded. Thanks again for your input!

Country: | Everything i have found, points to the shitty Via usb onboard controller, i think that is why you cannot get both working, and that's why the problem will never be resolved. Just testing Dman's server time delay mod, specifically for the likes of the T500, 15 seconds it's hit and miss whether the drivers have still fully reinitiliased, testing 20 seconds delay now. Even at 15 seconds that is extreme for something to reinitiliase, have tried a hauppauge usb dvb-t and no such delay, so yes i'm blaming Via on this one.

Country: | Thanks Paranoid Delusion for your thoughts but.... sorry for being a bit tired, do you think that Advanced TV Server would be a possible solution? If there is a possibility I might take the time just to see if would work. If you and I feel that there won't be a solution to this do you have a suggestion to which Dual TV card to be added to the Nova-t 500 for a total of 4 tuners on one computer? Once again thanks for the quick reply - Media Portal Rules Okay!

Country: | For PCI, there really is only the Pinnacle DVB-T Dual, besides the Hauppauge and that is truly pci so no standby issues that i have ever heard of. I take it you are running xp, as apparently awaiting Vista compatible drivers, no problem with xp. The only other good twin tuner card is pci-e and that is the Terratec cinergy 2400i.

Country: | Thanks for your suggestion of the Pinnacle DVB-T Dual but I notice in your System button that you use the Dvico Dual. Question why did you not recommend that one over the Pinnacle? I am going to purchase two of alternate dual tv tuner to Hauppauge and want to get it right. I have seen a few good write ups on the Pinnacle as well as the Dvico.... Thanks again I do appreciate it!!!!!!

Country: | I have the Dvico dual card. It's another one that is basically two USB tuners on a USB card. this is a pretty messy approach and means that you may have a lot of troubles if you want your PC to be able to go to sleep and wake up nicely. If you are looking for a dual TV option, go for one that is true PCI and not the method outlined above. Unfortunately the only way to know for sure is to find out from others, as the web sites never tell you the card will be trouble, before you buy it. |

Country: | Hello Marcusb I have heard that Dvico can be messy. I listen more to people like you and Paranoid Delusion over commerical reviews and "end user" reviews as you guys are in the deep end as it were and of like minds regard Media Portal!!!!!!! I think I will try Pinnacle DVB-T Dual and believe it or not the best price I have found is on eBay for Ł53.45 inc VAT + 3.95 postage and with this chap selling it will sell a second one for the same price but postage free!!! If anyone knows a better deal please let me know! I will post my results when I receive the cards. Thanks again Marcusb and Paranoid Delusion for your help in solving this problem and I do hope the other MP users who are having problems with getting two Nova-T 500 read this so that they can move on in with their own solutions....

Country: | I've been using the Pinnacle PC TV Pro (or something like that), the one that has two DVB-T tuners. It works perfectly well if your signal is good. If you use a small internal aerial you may have some trouble, as it's not as sensible as the Hauppauge HVR-900. My HTPC is set to hibernate when not in use (with Power Scheduler) and every day wakes up for the recordings without issue. I reboot it once a month, on the patch day (second tuesday every month) and that's it. Oh, I have not bothered to install any software from the CD-ROMs, stay away from Pinnacle's software and just install the drivers manually.BTW, I have not applied any of the fixes described on this thread to get it working. |
