| Hello All, I am a new MP user, I am having a lot of problems getting simple things to work but I am going to stick with it because it is by far the best package out there. I have spent a while getting MP to play VOB files. When I ripped a DVD I would put the VOB file and associtated ifo and bup files into a directory. I would rename the VOB file to the name of the movie so my kids could chose it easily using my other media player. After several days of experimenting I found that MP needs that original VOB file to be named what it was in the first place e.g VTS_01_1.VOB. When I renamed the file, I got pictures and sound Can anyone tell me if there is a way to get around this naming of the VOB file? I find it very useful (for my kids) to have it named as the movie rather than VTS_01_1.VOB as it is easier for them to navigate using the other media player Thanks for your help and a great product? |

| Portal Member | But of course you will NOT rename the vob files. If you do, you don't mess with mediaportal, you mess with the movie links themselves! By having a folder named as the movie and IN the folder having the VIDEO_TS folder (with all vobs, ifo etc.) untouched, you get what you wanted. It will also play exactly like a DVD (inc. DVD menu etc.).

(and when some dev adds better menu handling, multiple calls to modules and plugins with different options and much better dbase handling, it will be love... ah and a nice 3D front end and inter-module messaging system and...)

| Thanks for that. I wasn't aware the other files (inf and bup) had references (by file name) in them to the VOB file. I've done the folder thing and it works well and to top it off my other media player happliy works that way too. Thanks again |
