Synopsis:
The pre-record feature does not seem to work right for me. If I set it to 2 min for example. The program starts to record 2 minutes before the show starts for about 10 sec then stop and then starts agian. It continues this for the pre-record time. After that it records fine. Is there something I can do to fix this? I have had the same problem with RC2 and RC4.

When you play back the recorded file, do you get it all ?
Also if recorded from epg against a timed recording, output is different and you end up with 9kb filesize recordings instead of a full dvrms file.
So a bit more information would be appreciated.

Ray,
When I use epg and set it to pre-record. I get several files before the actual record time but during the pre-record time. The program start record and then stop and then starts again and keeps doing this until the actual show time starts. I get individual files that are about 10 secs long and about 10 second pause before I get another file, probably about 5 files that are small (clips of the show) then I get one large file that is the actual show schedule in epg. I hope this makes sense. I think I should get one large file of the pre-record plus the show plus the post record. Or is this a wrong understand?

Hi, sorry getting deja vue here, just asked you the same on your other post, so just ignore.
No does not sound right, so there is a definate split in the file as delay.
Will try and set up a recording during the day, using your parameters and confirm the problem and post back.
If this is a bug it will be low priority, as MP is designed by default to use timeshifting.

Ray,
I tried it again with time shift on and I still got serval files with missing parts of the show during the pre-record. I'm not sure what is going on. I thought it was fixed by the first results earlier today. I will try it agian and see what happens. So when you use pre-record you get one file with the pre-record time and the show time?

Also what is an OSD thing?

Strange, because i followed your instructions and have got a single file.
No stop/start as you have experienced.
Now we are at an impass as i have not read this particular problem occuring as you describe, so it does seem to be unique to you.
Can you change the tv video codec to another preferably MP's default.
mpegdec2 filter and see if the same thing occurs.
Another thing try installing a new svn, i am using yesterdays and its seems fine.
Also no one else has joined this post, which usually happens when things go wrong.
ps did not half miss timeshifting, the advantages far outway any possible disadvantage.

I have checked the log when this happens. It looks like to me the show starts recording but it says this is not the show and stops. Then it says we need to record so it starts again and then says this is not the show and stops. It keeps doing this until the show starts and then it records fine. Could it be something with the EPG? Please look at the log below and let me know if something makes sense to you. I'm trying to record "Friends" which starts at 6pm. I set the precord to 4 minutes before it starts which "My Wife and Kids" is on. It looks like it starts recording be realizes friends is not on so it stops and then starts again.

Does seem to be a issue between the epg and the TV card sync.
Try going into MPsetup\program guide and try removing the tv database.
Run whichever grabber you are using and see if there is any change/improvement. Also have you set a grabber to automatically run on MP\system startup (not a good idea).
