Problems with ATI pro 550

Aaaargh!

I nearly went nuts trying to get MP working on my system and finally decided to reformat and reinstall Windows in hopes of getting it to work - but now I've just got a new problem.

Having installed XP Sp2, the program, the card and everything else - and having used mplayer classic to check that the card works OK, I get this message every time I try to turn on th TV:

"Unable to create Graph"

In the log I also saw something about "Attempted to read or write protected memor," which seemed really weird.

More Info below and in the zipped logs.

I just wonder why I keep on doing this ...

Mike

1. Find out if yor card is a HW or SW-based card
2. Read sticky: http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/a-54/
3. Do what the sticky says
4. Wait
5. Use MP - AND PRAISE THE MP-TEAM!

Hi,

the ATi Theater 550 PRO Based Cards is on the supported card list. But unfortunatly there is no description how to use it.

Main problem with those cards is mostly a wrong driver version.

Let's see - about wrong drivers, this is the wdm driver I downloaded from ATI:

6-8_xp_t550_wdm_35179.exe

I don't really understand the nomenclature on their TV card drivers - but is it possible that an older version would do better?

BTW, Got All Media *is* working.

The template in the body text is the "System specs" template I think. The support template is a little bit different. Probably the most interesting missing part is your driver version. Maybe a small downgrade might work, so maybe someone using the same card can tell which version he/she is using.
(Just to make sur, you can find a driver version via System properties - device manager- find the card- properties-driver)

Right - OK. I looked up the driver version on the property page and got this: 6.14.10.186

Would you happen to know where to look for older ATI drivers? IT's a pity - I erased the old ones when I reinstalled.

Hi,

you may also consider to spend money on a real TV card.

I think the main reason why you did not get answers has simply its reason in the not so wide used card (for watching TV). The problem is, that the support of MP might break again with the next release of new drivers. Hopefully you can find someone with the same card. But that is only possible with an appropriate topic like "ATi AIW 550 pro not working" in the support section.

And, as allready suggested, take a look into the "how to add my card to the supported card list".

Flip.

exactly.

those software encoding cards are only one big pita.
you need a very powerful CPU because it has to do the realtime mpeg2 encoding!

And if you get your sw-encoding card to work, the noise of the CPU fan when watching TV will kill the fun.

So i suggest that you buy one (or more ) hardware encoding analog TV-card, or a dvb-card (-s,-c, -t).

Then the fun will start

btw. you should not buy a hybrid card. the analog part is nearly always software encoding too

<!-- edit -->

it realy is a hw-encoding card -> http://www.beyond3d.com/reviews/ati/550pro/

didnt knew that ATI finally offers hw-encoding cards now
but the drivers can be a bit tricky (same with the nvidia solutions)

to get it working again ::read::
