Radeon 9800 Resolution Reset

I've got an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro running at 1280x720 via a DVI -> HDMI cable to my TV. The problem is that every time the HTPC is restarted the resolution resets to 640x480, which is really quite annoying.

There's also the problem that if I turn the TV off and on again, there's no way to get the HDMI channel to display anything, unless I VNC into the HTPC and change the resolution or refresh rate, or if I reboot it.

Do you think these problems are related the ATI catalyst drivers? I've tried the Omega drivers too but they didn't help.

The TV being your only monitor? Tried 3rd party software like e.g. powerstrip to set resolution?

Yes, the TV is the only monitor and yes I've tried Powerstrip too.

I'm still using the Catalyst 5.13 drivers... and i've set the resolution by going to Display Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> Adapters -> List all modes and set mt resolution from there

What Driver version are you running? some more info would be helpful.
