Recorded shows file size too big

MP Version: 2 RC1
Skin: blue too
Windows Version: xp pro sp2
CPU Type: amd athlon 64 3000 1.8 ghz
Memory: 1gb geil
Motherboard Chipset: epox 9npa ultra +
Video Card: sapphire radeon xl 600
Video Card Driver: omega radeon drivers
Video Card Resolution: 800 x 600
Video Render Type: VMR9
Video Codec Type & Version:mpeg2dec filter
Audio Codec Type & Version: mpg/ac3/dts
TV Card: hauppauge pvr 150
TV Card Type: hardware
TV Card Driver: latest version from manufacturer website

Synopsis: after playing a bit with the my burner plugin, i noticed that the file sizes of my recorded shows was now huge. before an hour show would have used up about 2gb, now it uses about 50gb - i'm sure this is just something foolish that i've changed in some setting somewhere, but how do i change it back?

Could be that your birate in the setup is set very high? Cant be bothered working it out but 12mb VBR would produce quite a large file....

i've checked into that - I've tried setting the quality control to low and medium, with little or no difference in the size of files that get recorded. 1 minute of recording is coming out at approx 60, 000kb or more.

is there somwhere else i can tweak these settings that i'm overlooking?

That sounds about right. 60mbx60minutes = 3.6gig
