Default security questions..

security questions

Often media portal is left running and functions as a jukebox during parties etc and I'm curious if MP currently has the ability to enter a "secured" mode which could protect my system from the drunks

i.e

allow a configuration setting to disable the context "file menu" , which would disable the ability to delete files via the MP interface (for the drunks/crack heads who randomly press buttons, while aimlessly searching for music). This would stop the accidental possible deletion of music

- allow an option to set a "top level" within MP.. I.e from main screen, enter "my music" , allow a configuration setting that holds this as the highest level. Meaning there is no way to back-out the main menu (without a pw or something similar)..

now I'm aware of the following

re: "file menu" . Obviously i could correctly set file permissions within the operating systems to specify the music share directories as "read-only" . The only downside occurs when performing a "cover art" scan, the lack of write ability creates the inability to save the image.

re : "top level" . I'm aware i could disable all the plugins individually, but it would be nice to have the option to do this on the fly..

First backup your mediaportal.xml, you can use this to restore your previous settings.

After that you should have a look through the MP configuration, there is an option there to disable the file menu. Also, configure the home plugin to use a custom menu with only one item added - "My Music". If you're using an MCE remote, edit the mappings so only the navigation buttons work.

Then party!!

Once you've drunk enough  - barfed :? - slept 8) - sobered  - tidied  , restore your original mediaportal.xml and it'll all be a distant memory
