Default Setting up Media Portal - newbie in oz can't scan

hi guys,

Built up my HTPC, but am stuck tryign to find a software. Tried heaps, including MCE, GBPVR, Mythtv etc etc.

Simply cannot find one i like, and set it up. Mythtv seems the best, but impossible to set up unless you're a linux guru.

So that has brought me here.

I have installed Media Portal, and i simply cannot work out how to get it to scan for channels.

Mysetup:

P4 1.9ghz w/512mb ram
DNTV Live! Pro
Twinhan Sat-CI

atm, the Twinhan is not inserted, as i'm trying to work out how to get it working. I'm living in perth, australia.

Basically what i need

1) How do i get it to scan for channels
2) When i insert my Twinhan, how do i get it to scan for satellite channels, simply by telling it which satellite i'm facing.
3) Can i use HIP to control media portal via remote control?

atm, that's all i got, will update later if need be

Cheers

Have you installed the BDA drivers for the DNTVLive! and then run Autotune?

I will have to leave this one for someone with DVB-S experience

Probably - which remote do you have?

Could you please read this and post all of the requested information?

Area: Perth - Media Portal 0.1.3
Skin: MCE
Windows Version: WinXP SP2
CPU Type: Intel p4 1.9
Memory: SD Ram - 512mb
Motherboard Chipset: Intel
Video Card: ATI Radeon Sapphire 9200
Video Card Driver: windows
Video Card Resolution: 800*600
Video Render Type: ?
Video Codec Type & Version: havent got this far
Audio Codec Type & Version: haven't got this far
TV Card: DNTV Live! Pro!
TV Card Type: DVB
TV Card Driver: BDA

I have installed the BDA Drivers, and it has detected it, and it even comes on the drop down list in media portal setup. But when i click autotune, it is tuning for analog channels. The video card does both analogue and digital.

What am i doing wrong?

btw for "Tv capture card"
i get three options:

DNTV Live! Pro Video Capture (General H/W encoding card)
DNTV Live! Pro Transport Stream Capture (general S/W encoding card)
DNTV Live! Pro Transport Stream Capture (General H/W encoding card)

Now, the first one, does a scan and picks up no channels

the second one does an analogue scan

the third one when i click on it it says 'cannot create a graph for this device'

The DNTV Live! software detects all the channels fine, so i do have signal.

I suggest you uninstall the version of MediaPortal that you have, delete the Mediaportal folder, and then install version 0.2RC4, which you can get from here. Don't be concerned that it is called a "test release" - I have found it to be very solid and stable.

Run configuration again, and autotune - if you still have no joy, let us know if you have a choice of more than one card in the drop-down box, and what those names are - I think you should only find "DNTV Live! Pro Transport Stream Capture", as I don't think the analogue section is supported in RC4....I could be wrong though!

It would also be helpful if you posted your MediaPortal.log file information (Please use http://mp.pastebin.com and then post the link in your forum thread), if you still require assistance.

ok seems to be working ok... channels are a little choppy, is it possible to adjust the minimum threshold like in mythtv? Or is there somewhere i can see signal strength so i can tune my antenna correctly?

Channel 9 is missing

Using the Razor skin and all i can say is 'wow', this is great, the new version rules... very impressive! I've definately found the HTPC software i'm after, now i just gotta configure it

No, not in MediaPortal - but you should be able get that information from the DNTVLive! application. Do you also get choppy TV with the DNTVLive! application, as this sounds like a poor-signal problem?

Do you mean that the Autotune did not "find" channel 9, or that you cannot view it?

autotune didn't find channel 9

The reception is slightly choppy on dntv live... I'm setting it up in my room atm, using rabbit ears.

once the system is ready to go, it will be moved to the main room where it will be connected via rooftop antenna
