Default Streamzap PC Remote laggy, unresponsive in MediaPortal only

MediaPortal Version: 1.0.0 RC4
MediaPortal Skin: Default
Windows Version: Windows XP Pro SP3
CPU Type: AMD Athlon XP 2700
Memory: 768MB
Video Card: ATI Radeon 9600
Remote: Streamzap PC Remote
TV - HTPC Connection: S-Video

I recently installed MediaPortal and started work on turning my old desktop computer into a media center PC. I previously used my Streamzap PC Remote for Winamp. While Winamp responds nearly instantaneously to remote button presses, I have to wait 3-5 seconds between button presses in MediaPortal or the program doesn’t accept the press.

I don't want to install an extra program like Girder or EventGhost, especially since version 2.9.4 of the Streamzap Remote drivers supposedly improved support for MediaPortal.

My goal is to be able to swiftly navigate MediaPortal with my Streamzap PC Remote. Again, the Remote works great in Winamp, but very poorly in MediaPortal.

Please advise.

Okay, I figured out what my problem was.

The batteries in my Streamzap PC Remote were low on juice.

Now before you go thinking I'm a nitwit: In my defense, the batteries were fresh rechargeables I had purchased several months ago and stored in a box before moving. I'm not sure why they lost their charge without being used, but putting in a fresh pair of AAAs seems to have fixed everything.

So the motto of the story is: Don't assume your new rechargeable batteries are fresh, even if you've just taken them out of the package. Charge them up to make certain or use regular (non-rechargeable) batteries to test any gadgets that are acting strangely.

All rechargeables need charging prior to use, so not sure where you got the idea from that they are fully precharged on distribution, as this screws up there long term durability, most manufacturers state on new batteries packaging\instructions keep them charging for upto xx hrs on the very first charge.

Anyway glad you got it sorted
