Default Stutter when playing AVI

Hi,

If I play a avi (HD quality) in MediaPortal/My Videos, it stutters, Ive tried every decoder, ive played with the VMR settings nothing makes it perfect (with some it get worse, but never perfect)

Same file, played in Windows Media Player (11) plays perfectly.

Ideas?

- Fredrik

Check to see what decoder WMP11 uses? Just grasping at straws!

Windows media player reports:

Video:
Windows Media Video 9 Advanced Profile

Audio:
Windows Media Audio 10 Professional
128 kbps, 48 kHz, 2 channel 24 bit 1-pass CBR

Ive tried on multiple computers, everything from my super-game-computer to my HTPC's, same effect on all.

You can find rrHD videos here:
RunRyder - 2008 - 8th Annual Las Vegas Fun Fly and Contest - Event Home Page

(download the rrHD version).

Ive tried all latest SVN's, currently running 18513

Windows Media player = Perfect
VLC = Perfect
Divx Player & MediaPortal = Stutter

WMV file will not use Divx player

Have cyberlink PDVD7 + Vista codec pack installed, just downloaded and played perfectly one of the movies in your link.

Can you run filmerit and see if you have codec errors.

Cheers

I too have cyberlink and vista codec pack on my computer,
Which codec are you using under "Movies" in Mediaportal to get it running?

"WMV file will not use Divx player"

When played from DivX Player (open it with it, it plays but stutters, just like Mediaportal)

Never used filmerit before, but it reports 2 errors out of 340 filters, both regards to QuickTime audio, anything else in that program I need to check?

Everything have set to Cyberlink codec regarding video, audio have AC3.

filmerit, nope did you fix those errors, ie unlock, accept paul's terms and hit the bug button and select fix.

When playing file, what does your cpu register, playing it through MP in windowed mode got 30% use, hate to think this is down to gpu.

Might be time for some hardware specifications.

Don't know if it helps but I had (still have) the same problem:

MP freezes sometimes WMP plays like a dream

Although 720p WMV's play pretty ok nowadays 1080p movies with codec mentioned above stutter about every second in MP but play without dropped frames etc in Windows Media Player.

Might be time for some hardware specifications.

Possibly the combination of MP using DirectX (no other player does) and the file being rendered is causing your system to slow down, causing stuttering.

Thanks for your reply. Well I'm using a Mac Mini 1.83Ghz dual thingie. Apple - Mac mini - Technical Specs it really doesn't have that much power or that much of a GFX card (actually, that on board Intel GMA 950 graphics processor is pretty low-end

Then again, the files do play well in WMP (got a lot of 720p and 1080p WMV's). It's just that I love mediaportal and for how I use it this is the only thing that I don't like about the entire package. And I'm still not sure if I can try those files to be played with a special codec. As far as I know I can't using the normal configuration tool to force them to get played with different codec.

I did buy Core AVC because it was a small amount of money but I'm not sure if plays the files MrMel mentioned.
