My System

Default stuttering live tv
Hello!

My external client and my internal client (running on the server itself) have problems with stuttering (Video AND Audio) while watching live-TV or timeshift TV (SD not HDTV). I think it does not happen when watching a complete recorded movie (but i'll recheck this).

This happens sometimes once an hour and sometimes 4-5 times per hour for about 1second. I've also monitored all Ressources on Client and on Server but there are no peaks or anything else which looks strange.

Any idea where to start debugging this issue?

Check if TsReader.log / TsWriter.log shows discontinuity errors.

Yes, I have the same issue, but haven't got around to investigating yet since I tend to watch recordings rather than live tv most frequently. I notice the HDD light goes from a regular flicker typical with timeshifting or watching a recording, to being constantly on - ie. the disk starts thrashing. The picture locks up for a bit, and MP becomes very unresponsive. After a while things go back to normal. I thought it might have been my anit-virus software updating, or the new Windows search thing (I'm on XP), but it still seems to be happening despite disabling them. I have a similar set up to you (see my system spec at left), and I've only noticed it since installing the PDVD8 codecs, which I use for video (audio is through the NVidia purevision codec). Perhaps that's the root cause?

it cannot be a disk problem - i've checked the light and the ressource manager for disk activity nothing special.

No discontinuity errors so the tv signal you are receiving should be ok.

That worries me a little bit. Could you do some more testing and check when the stuttering occurs if such log lines are added to TsReader.log?

Stuttering caused by codec or MP EVR code. No idea how to fix if its the EVR. Try using different codecs to see if it reduces the stuttering (althou its hard to make judgement as the signal is contributing also...).

Not sure if this has caused any stuttering, it could have been the EVR / codec and these lines are just logged at the same time or codec doesnt like the wrong results its getting from TsReader. Gemx is currently on vacation, but before that he was checking TsReader dynamic content detection. Hopefully he will have some more time after he gets back.

Hi!

I've now checked again some stutterings i've everytime this happens the "Scheduling sample from the past" in EVR and "DeMultiplexer: video format changed: res=176x544 aspectRatio=16:9 bitrate=15000000 isInterlaced=1" in tsreader.

I think the EVR Messages are caused by the tsreader messages. Can i debug some more? I can compile MP myself and add patches or debug logging or so - i only need to know where.

@rmeredit: I have similar the same behavior like you. Alwayes if the pc write something at the hdd the audio stutter and this in a regular intervals.
