I use DVB-T EPG grabber as well (TV Server) and found it pretty good. I used to have Big Kev's grabber before I switched to Tv Server setup. Big Kev's grabber is really good and I think people should be happy to have both options available.
I stopped Big kev's program not because it's worse than DVB-T data, just because DVB-T grabber works and as charli stated it has improved a lot in all latest svns.

I would also suggest trying the latest snapshot of tvserver.
There were a lot of changes behind the scenes in the last 2 months.
Especially for the TsWriter filter which also grabs the epg

Reading these replies has opened my eyes to other aspects of MP; in particular TV Server.

I run My TV from the standard MP install but it seems that if I want more functionality I will have to install TV server. Bloody hell, there goes another few hours of my time. I must learn to resist the tinkering temptation.

Last night I checked the 'get DVB EPG' box and it did populate the EPG after about a few minutes but there were missing channels. I think it was Ten HD, ABC 2 and SBS. Are there any extra settings that are required to make MP pick up the gaps or is this all done automatically? Maybe TV server it is better designed to pick up all the data from the DVB T stream.

charli181 - the web interface link you posted - I gather that's from big kevs application for TV server? It's definitely something I could see my self using, especially to set the schedule whilst at work. (BTW charli181, you must have kids as I noticed a lot ABC kids progs scheduled. I need a new lot of Dora the Explorer recordings to keep my 2yo daughter amused).

guytpetj - I PM'd Angusmann to get the TV guide app he wrote. I'll try to give it a shot.

fromaron - You said you use to use big kevs app for My TV. Where were you picking up your EPG data from in the app? I noticed Jrobbo does not work and read somewhere that something has changed in Oztivo which could cause problems.

So far no one seems to be using WebEPG.

Long weekend coming up. I'll see if I can get TV server working. I didn't think this HTPC would be so time consuming. It's probably due to me still climbing the learning curve.

Channel2 and TEN HD are the ones I occasasionally have problems with even with TV Server. It usually rectifies it self within the day. I think sometimes they do not transmit this info.
As for SBS, I don't know but I did read on the web a long time ago they did not transmit EPG. this was back in 2006 though so they may have changed.

I think Big_Kev has made a recent release to get OZtivo working

Fiddled around some more last night and noticed a couple of things. The EPG only updates when you are tuned to the channel (which is bloody obvious) and there are also lot of gaps in the epg. It seems to grab a weeks worth of data and the gaps don't discriminate between the channels. I'd say TV server might work better at grabbing the guide so it looks like I'll be installing it very soon.

Another thing I noticed last night was Nine HD had a show in its guide at 8.30pm which was different to Nine digital. I think it was called Invasion but it didn't start at 8.30 because Ramsays kitcehn was playing on both the Nine channels. I thought that this was glitch in Nine HD's EPG data but half and hour later the show did air. I didn't know that Nine HD began broadcasting alternernate shows as do 7HD and Ten HD. This must have been a recent happening. Funny how there was no build like there was with 7 and Ten.

charli181 - Dora is for you It must be for some rug rat that you know?!?!

Back to the tinkering.

My two cents.. which is worthless now.. I guess I should say my 5cents worth

I too have been down this path and gemx has done an excellent job at tidying up the epg grabber.. StarTV, there's an option under SetupTV in the general settings to say grab while idle (as well as the grab while timeshifting option).

I used both of Big Kev's products and still use the server version for SBS.. yes.. they don't seem to constantly transmit a useful EPG.. Also, ABC only seems to xmit it for the current day.. not a big one with me. Finally, some of the stations use ALL CAPS and some prefix every movie with M- or just a title of Midday Movie.. not very helpful.

Still gemx's software now works flawlessly for me.. so thanks again gemx. I'm always impressed with his work.

Cheers

erosco - So you're using TVserver with the DVB-T EPG grabber for all channels apart from SBS where you use big kevs TV server app to populate the EPG for SBS only. Is this correct?

There are so many options and it gets confusing. At this point in time I'm thinking of using Kevs app with eggstreams free EPG but it still seems I need to install TVserver. I'm dreading that it will be a headache. So much to do setting up this stuff and I only get little pockets of time. I'll have to use the long weekend to full advantage.

StarTV, yes; this is correct. I download both SD and HD guides for ABC, 7 9 and 10 from the EPG grabber while SBS comes from Big Kev's service for TVServer.

I also grab EPG data for Select TV using the EPG grabber.. so I'm getting both DVB-T and DVB-S stuff through gemx's code.

The two go hand in hand nicely.. mind you you'll want to be on the latest SVNs..

If you have trouble feel free to PM me.. I'll be around today and tomorrow.. On Sunday I'm off to Bells beach for a few days :-)

Cheers

Just finishing installing TV server. Have to play with it to see if all is working. First impression, many more features than standard MP. I still need to clear up a couple of things that don't make sense at the moment. Will post when I have some more - must get the kids washed before ice age starts. I'll also try recording ice age tonight using TV server.

Thanks all for your advice.
