Default Tuning problem or Codec problem??

I've got a funny question, sometimes when I tune (via DVB) to E4 or More4 in the UK, it doesn't seem to tune properly and I get a green fuzzy\wavy screen.

I assumed this was my signal not quite picking up the channel as I'd sometimes get recordings that had the same problem, usually I just deleted them know that they'd be repeated, but I had a recording from Monday night that had the same problem, when I looked at it yesterday it was buggered, I don't know why but I didn't delete it, I tried it again this morning and the picture is fine??

So it seems like a codec issue, has anyone else had this problem?

Because you say that a recording was showing artifacts and later it was fine, then it cannot be a problem of the tuner. It's most likely something else, like the codecs that you're using. Use the template to post all the information, so we can help better.

MP Version: 0.2 SVN 22-07-06
Skin: razor
Windows Version: Windows XP SP2
CPU Type: Athlon64 3000
Memory: 1024 MB
Video Card: Geforce6150
Video Card Resolution: 1366 x 768
Video Codec Type & Version: Dscaler
Audio Codec Type & Version: Dscaler

This went away for awhile but now is back!!!

Without a doubt its the codec, but I don't know howto fix or re-install it, also I can't get the MPV codec to show video with DVB streamsor recordings.

If you select the MPV and MPA codecs does it work or not? The only problem that I'm having with MPA is that it won't play audio for one channel, so I'm using Intervideo non CSS Audio Codec for Hauppauge which works fine for all channels.

I did have occasional artifacts with DScaler, but this was due to weak signal, because I'm tuning DVB-T with a small aerial (waiting for the building's to be compatible for DVB-T).

If you don't get any video with MPV, this looks like some problem with Windows XP (some driver, or some codec is messing up). Because Media Portal grabs TV always in Mpeg2 (from analog hardware encoder, or from analog software encoder, or from pre-encoded DVB), MPV always will work no matter which channel you're watching (unlike audio, where besides MPEG audio there can be AC3). I'm assuming that signal is strong, of course.

There is another test that you can do, simply enter My TV and record a few minutes of TV with MPV/MPA (even if it picture is black). Then close Media Portal and use Windows Media to playback the recording. Post results, but I don't think I will be able to help you much with this issue .

Can I uninstall all the codec and then re-install the ones I want, although my machine is very clean and it only has the ones MP has installed plus Divx

At this point I can't tell you if it's a codec problem or something else, so I don't recommend you to uninstall them. MPV and MPA are installed along with Media Portal, if you install any of the latest stable updates, like 0.2.0.2, probably you will have a file called start.bat that will copy and register those codecs again.

okey dokey, I figured out why I don't get a picture with the MPV codec, because in the filters the contrast was set to zero. So fixed that one.

Now I'm using the MPV\MPA codecs, I get the the following picture, which is an improvement over the completely green fuzzy screen.
