Exclamation TV Search and the letter A

Yes that is right, the letter A... Is any one having this odd problem.. It seems that when you go to TV Search, they keyboard all ready puts in the letter A thus subjecting you to all your favourite shows that begin with you guessed it! A!!

Now call me daft, but when I go to Search I just want to see all the shows I can possibly record but if I'm after something specific then I will enter in a search field... Any one else having this problem. Thanks...

I introduced the "a", otherwise it would always do a search for all items which can cause long delays before first showing the window and that gives a bad user experience.
If you have another idea how to solve this - just let me know
Quote from gemx above, in answer to the reason why A is used, he does have a valid point

Hopefully this may change with MP2, we will have to see.

Thanks for the info!

I see the problem here, maybe it should be a letter close to the backspace-button

Or how about just pre-selecting the "A", so that when you start typing, the "A" is overwritten. That would be my solution to this

But this way you would never be able to really search for "a" or anything like "ab.."

Sure you would. Just type "A"

Like a web-form:

<input type="text" value="a" onfocus="this.select();">

The above field contains the value "a" but this is overwritten when you start typing. Ofcourse only when the form is loaded for the first time. focusing the cursor on the field selects the a, but if you don't type anything it will search for "a".

Should be easy enough...

We used to able to just press a letter on the remote (1 == abc etc) but now have to go to onscreen keyboard and backspace to clear 'a', toggle to new letter, select it, toggle to ok, etc. Really clunky
Unless I've missed a trick of course !

The disadvantage of the old single letter search was that many people have a lot of shows starting with a given letter. The virtual keyboard allows for the user to input multiple letters as search string, thereby reducing the amount of pages to go through when looking for a specific show.
