Twinhan, Diseqc & speed issues

Hi Folks,

Ive been trying again yesterday to get the Twinhan DVB-S (with latest BDA drivers 1.2.3.0) running on MP.

I am running MP0.2 RC2 with the card and a "Monoblock" LNB that supports ASTRA & EUTELSAT. Eutelsat should be DiseqcA, Astra DiseqcB

After (not successfully) trying every possible combination of Diseqc (A/B, B/A, Simple etc) I have finally suceeded to get at least Eutelsat working, but no chance with Astra.

Question: Does Diseqc work at all with MP 0.2 RC2 & BDA-drivers? Is there any workaround or fix planned?

Furthermore the switching time is very long (between 3 and 10 seconds), not really feasible for a "living room PC". And also the picture stutters from time to time, don´t know why. I also here switched between several codecs, VMR7/9 etc. without improvement.

Am I alone with this or is it something currently being worked on?

you're not alone. I'm using 2 quad LNB's and a Spaun multiswitch. I'm not able to get DiseqC working. I'm using BDA-driver 1.2.3.1c because this one is working with MCE 2005 too.
First there may be an issue with the driver. Calling BDAConsole shows the switching frequency to 0 instead of 11700 resulting in a loss of channels (I did a test with version 1.2.3.4; the driver didn't not work with MCE2005, but with MP).
But besides this, I'm not able to tune any Hotbird-Channel, regardless which settings are used in BDAConsole and/or MP-Setup.

If someone made this really working, it would be nice to know how to do this also.

That's it.

Settings were:

LNB1: Astra 19Deg., DiseqC 1 A/A, 22Khz on, KU-band
LNB2: Hotbird 13Dg, DiseqC 1 A/B, 22Khz on, KU-band

Hope it's enough information, otherwise (MP.log is saved for later use).
DiseqC settings and finding out how the correct settings are, is a nightmare. So I'm not shure about.

If the switching time between channel could be shortened, the video/audio sync be improved and the conversion to mpeg will work, the major tasks of a HTPC would be fulfilled in an excellent way. MediaPortal is a very good piece of software

I would very much like to give you more help, but my 08:00 to 20:00 job is killing any attempt to make a serious testing.
But it would be very nice if i could throw away my external dvb receiver, my video recorder and the printed program guide.

At least a few points on some discussions here in the forum.

The variety of MP users is very large. So for the unexperienced users who want only to have a htpc in the living room, the major functions must be easy to setup and have to be stable (MyTv, DVD, EPG, MyRadio, Recording, controlled by a single remote control, no keyboard and mouse, and timer handling).
Codecs and all that stuff is to complicated for that users, changing merits and so on will end up in a chaos.
Install, short setup and MP must do it major work.

The rest is for more experienced users.

MP is on a good way to manage that, to my mind lik no other htpc software in the moment.
