Default Understand EPG to Channels

Hi

Could someone explain me how the the following set up is achieved or happens automatically.

I specify the xml file for the EPG,
I have tuned the card for the tv channels

How do channel names in xmltv EGP guide gets mapped to the cannels detected in the tuner ? I have seen they are different ( I am in UK ).

Indepth explanation is highly appreciated than a couple of sentences

In GBPVR they have an option to do this.

In MP does it happen Auto or How do you do it ? Quite Franckly there is no documentation for this in the document section, Could one of those veteren members update this please.

Default Still Not clear

Hi Paranoid Delusion
Thanks very much for your reply, I read what you mentioned but it still does not give me a place to map the channels.

Quote:
you will be presented with a scrolling list of of tuned channels, from here you marry up your channel name with the grabbers channel name, ie abc1 is ABC1, BBC1 is BBC1 Southeast.
When I selected EPG, I only got a bunch of countries, In that UK was'nt. I pressed the manual epg button which showed me pairs of channels in a list. but it did not let me make any changes to the maps.

Is this set up in a xml file somewhere which I can edit manually ?

Do you know the meaning of combine in the channel list editor in the set up tool?

I have tested 5..6 pvr s/w now and it all seems to have the same basic problems.

If we look at an object oriented point of view, The key component in the PVR is the tuner card. Our s/w should be based on them,

Is it not possible to have a configuration such that you add your card , under that card you tune the channels, You specify where to pick up the EPG for these channels. Finally you do any channel mappings if require.

We configure channels like these for every card separately.
In the programme guide section, channels coming from different cards can appear in different colours. The use should be given the choice to select the tuner for the recording not the s/w it self.

Is this practically impossible to implement?, rather than we have these things explained in different places.
I really wish MP to become a very USER friendly PVR. As a S/W engineer, I find it very difficult to configure it.
Why cant we get rid of the stupid wizards and have one place for all the configuration ( set up tool ) and the MP for displaying things.
No settings in MP, Just display things. And if we can simply complete the documentation, Lot of forum questions can be removed.

This criticism is no way to undermine the good work you carry out but to make it better. hope you will understand it.

I do not but I really suspect the crappy dot net causes lot of errors on these s/w..
