Use the MCE remote with a laptops built-in IR Port?

Is it possible to use the MCE remote with a laptops built-in IR port? I have a HP NC6000 laptop that has a built-in IR port, can I use this instead of the huge Microsoft USB IR receiver?

No, the IR ports on laptops are almost always IRDA which is for data transmission only. Different wavelength and very low range.
