| I am having an issue with MP and my server. MP crawls when doing any kind of network activity. Getting a file listing, starting a video, etc... all take forever. On the same setup with other Front Ends I have no such issue. The others all work at regular windows speed. I was about to give up and use another front end, but the way MP works with external players is very good, but unless I can solve the network access issue I will have to give up on it. Using the latest release 0.2.0.0 with the first stable patch file installed currently, but this was an issue with RC4 as well. Thanks, Mark

Country: | how are the 2 computers connected? cross over cable, via a router, switch or a hub? is it cabled or is it running wireless, and what speed? i presume all you have done is basically share out folders in windows then on the frontend computer just setup those mapped network drives in the configuration ? |

| Currently the setup is over a fast(netgear 240) wireless connection, but I have the same problem wired. They do go through my router. I can try it wired through my gigabit switch instead when I get home from work. I have tried the shares using both direct PC naming and drive mapping on the MP computer. On the server it is a simple share. It is not a reboot timeout as I access the drive manually before starting MP to be sure the connection is live. This is not an issue with Xlobby or GBPVR setup with the shares the same way. However I like MP much better then those and would love to get it working. Thanks, Mark

Country: | hmmm very strange i went home and stuck a video on my gf laptop and shared it out over the wireless and did the network share in my configuration and it virtually displayed the info instantly and the video started playing in about 1 second. hmmm , let me know how it goes over your gigabit switch as that is what i'm doing soon |

| Way too hot tonight to do anything. My AC died 5 days ago. Can you say goodbye to my new computer. ![]() I am getting a new unit installed tomorrow. So I hopefully will be able to move without melting. I am also going to try removing the switch from my network and just go straight 100Mbit. Maybe the combo is screwing up MP. What I don't get is why Windows itself and the other apps have no issues. Does MP use any additional protocols besides just riding ontop of Windows when looking at the network?

Country: | not that i'm aware of, unless a programmer can shed some light, i'm wondering if when you try it next tiem run it in windows view instead of fullscreen, then go into the task manager and check out the networking tab and see what kind of usages are going on in there when its looking for the shared drive, i heard someone having a problem with access a network drive and they tried the netbios name, eg \\mediacentre\d\ and apparently it worked for him. did you say you already tried that tho? |

Country: | May also want to try and use the IP address (e.g. \\192.168.2.3\c\videofiles\) for your computer instead of the machinename (e.g. \\blackrabbit\c\videofiles\). Mike |

| Portal Member | yes this should be a bit quicker (to much quicker, depending on your setup)

| Just a quick update. I removed the switch from the network and it still happens. When I say slow, just so you know, I mean like a full 45 seconds just to get a file list. Yes I have tried by the netbios name as well already. I am still stumped by why only MP. Mark
