Can someone please explain me, why MP can't controll the volume while the pc is connected to the AVR via SPDIF?
I already read this in other threads, but i can not understand why i can controll the volume in other apps and of course in the Windows Master Volume controll when connected via SPDIF but not in MP. I even don't get the volume controll overlay in MP (in fullscreen) with SPDIF. If i change the connection back to analog the overlay is back again and i can controll the volume.

Set up MP to control the "Wave" volume and not "Master" volume. Works great here.

Thanks for the reply. I already tried this, but the funny thing is that when i try to switch to "Wave" it always switches back to "Master".
So i can not enable "Wave", do you have an idea why?

Got it!! Nearly :-)
I still have the effect that everytime i try to switch to "Wave" in the volume settings it always jumps back to "Master".

But if you change the setting in the Mediaprotal.xml config by hand it works!!!!!

Look:
You have to change the red colored line to value "yes".

1

0

yes

0, 4095, 8191, 12287, 16383, 20479, 24575, 28671, 32767, 36863, 40959, 45055, 49151, 53247, 57343, 61439, 65535

52428

yes

27636

Can someone from the developers please check to effect i described above within the MP Config dialog?

I saw this behaviour with RC1 + an old SVN. Maybe the bug has come back.

Hi,
Only thing that would force a use of Master Volume is if you use upmix in Music section else it should be selectable as it is here..

i checked that out and your correct about that.
but is there i way to force it to wave while the upmix is selected?
i would really like to be able to control the volume on the htpc instead of the amplifier.

i would like to change the settings in the mediaportal.xml file so i can be able to use it but i can't find this file in the current version of MP.
is it in another file or is there another way to force it?

p.s.: due to some software conflicts (i guess) i set the master volume in vista ultimate to speakers while in fact the only connection between htpc and amp is optical.
the settings in mp are spdif.

yours,

Montecristo

Might be worth remembering that if you do have your HTPC set to adjust volume on SPDIF output then you most likely will not get bit perfect output and you will also probably break DTS and AC3 playback.
