Question Want to convert to MP.. but...?

Hi everyone.

I feel a little stupid, so please be gentle with me :-)

I currently have a MediaPC setup running SnapStreams BTV and BeyondMedia. I've never liked neither the fact that it's two seperate programs (in MP it's nicely integrated into one), the look of the programs, nor the %&€% Firefly remote. However, when i decided to use it, several years ago, it was a bit better than MP..... (ehem...)

Now, however, i've reached my limit with BTV and BeyondMedia. But before i try to switch over, i've tried to figure out some stuff, but i am stuck. Since this is absolutely essential for me, i don't dare to switch before i know how to do this (see below). Please, please help me.....

I have several harddisks with these folders on each.. movies (for single avi and divx files / movies, like "Die Hard", "Die Hard 2" and so on), then i have a folder on each drive for series (avi files and so on, with subfolders for each serie, like Friends, Simpsons and more). And to top it off, i've a folder on each drive for DVD movies (.vob, .ts files, with subfolders for each movie, named after each movie).

My questions:

1: As i have it now, i have 3 menu items on my 'home' screen. One for Series, one for movies and one for DVD's (the latter one also have a sub-button for 'play DVD Disc'). Can i achieve the same in MP?

2: Including files in BeyondMedia (BM) is very easy. i just point to a folder, and BM add it to the root map. Then it scans all (new) movies via IMDB and adds the correct data. Can this be done, or do i need to add each movie manually? (such as via AMC??)

Again... please advice... i'd love to switch over.... :-)

From my experience you would need to have a link back to each root folder (ie link to TV folder on each hard drive, link to movies folder on each hard drive)

What about shuffling the data about? For example have all series on one hard drive, movies on another, etc. This would then allow you to have the one link to Movies, one to Series.

My setup for tv shows is just "TV". From there I can see all the series available. However it is basically only showing the contents of that folder.

Download and try it out - you wont be disappointed!!

-- to the moderator: As i'm new here, i might have put this post in the wrong thread. Please help me move it inot the right one, where i also might get more feedback ----

Hi and thank you so much for your answer. It poses some problems, though. First of all i have a LOT of movies, both in avi and DVD (.ts) format. I would never be able to put all AVIs into one folder and vice versa (at the moment i use 4 drives at 320gb. each). In other words, i have to solve it another way.

On another note... I've been playing around wit MediaPortal a bit now, and I'm totally in awe!! I'ts grown from a simple, buggy tool (when i saw it last, several years ago), to a complete, stable and gorgeous application. It is far more user-friendly than anything I've seen (and i work designing user-friendly solutions..), and even 'external' necessities, such as pulling data from XMLTV is nicely integrated. So i take a big bow to the programmers... keep up the EXCELLENT work.

So... htat said, back to my original problem. I still need to find a way to import / catalog all my harddisk-based movies and DVD's, and list them out in a nice and equally user friendly way. By the way, i looked at AMC and DVDprofiler since MP has plugins to import from these. However, as far as i can see, none of the programs can 'point' to the file on my disc, and furthermore, i have to add one and one move.... a REAL pain.

But, like i said.... PLEASE advice me.... i yearn (is that an english word?!) to convert to MP!

..oh, and i forgot 2 more things:

1: Please forgive me my bad english... i always forget to spellcheck ;-)

2: Is there any way to change the default folder where MP will put my TV recordings / timeshift buffer?

2: Yes. In "Setup" see: TV -> TV-card -> Edit -> Recording folder (or something similar - I am not using a computer with MP installed ATM)

Not sure if I understand your questions right, but:

- For TV-series - use the TV-series plugin found here: http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/my_tvseries-f162.html

- If you want to separate divX/Xvid movies and DVD movies (why?): Add the two folders and use "shares"-view. You get a list of the two folders (+optical drives and virtual drives). Perhaps you can tweak this to meet your demands in config -> myMovies -> Views (or something)

Oh, and....
1: Use Firefox with integrated spell check

EDIT: Oh.. and WELCOME to HTPC heaven

Actually, i might be misunderstanding something here. In BM i cannot show .avi and divx type movies in the same folder as my 'regular' DVD's (.ts). If i understand you correctly, MP allows this so that i can have 'all' my movies (except series?) in on folder?! If so.. that would be awesome!

Next: Just for fun, i added all my folders to the 'mymovies', and let MP scan them... i get a lot of odd errors; it tries to search for blank spaces (&nbsp in IMDB. After checking 900 files, i stopped it. Now i have to figure out what to do to make it parse my folders correctly in IMDB.

As for MySeries, that plugin chrashes MP. The resulting error message tells me the plugin is not supported in version 2.2.
