A way to save settings when installing a SVN patch?

Is there a way to save all your settings when installing a SVN patch? i know you are supposed to do a clean install and you lose all your settings, and it is a bit of a pain to re-setup every setting on the program.

We only recommend svn, if there is something that has been added to MP's useability, that is a must have, ie TV card support.
And even then for stability purposes, updates are coming through pretty quick (not during summertime holidays Northern Hemisphere), which really makes svn redundant for the most part, unless you want to be a tester.
