Default Widescreen resolution under 1280x768

Is there a widescreen resolution under 1280x768? Because according to my ATI Radeon 9600XT software it says that my TV only supports up to 1024x768. My TV is a GRUNDIG Elegance 82cm Widescreen Flatscreen and I want to achieve true widescreen with it.
If there is, how do I configure MediaPortal for it.
Thanks.

I have been wondering something similar.

I have the same video card and have managed to use ATI Catalyst to force the screen resolution to 1280 x 768 @ 60Hz. This works fine on the desktop and within MP. I have a Philips 26" LCD (widescreen) TV.

To the best of my knowledge, I don't ever recall a problem until I updated Catalyst to the latest version 6.3!

However, when I go back to the Home screen, it reverts the resolution to 1024 x 768 @ 70Hz (original setting in Display Control Panel settings) and MP chops off the right side of the picture and the text is blurred. This also affects the desktop resolution.

I too would love to know how to keep the resolution to 1280 x 768. Anyone got any ideas? Isn't there a utility program that people have mentioned on here before? Would think be a work around?

I had PowerStrip but it caused by PC to become unstable and it would not set my TV to widescreen. Is there some other program I can use. Also, do you think my TV could actually support 1,280x768? Its 100Hz if that helps.

What is the TV's native resolution(assuming its an LCD) and how are you connecting to it? S-Video, VGA, VGA->SCART, DVI, HDMI?

Personally for me, I have my Philips LCD Widescreen TV connected to the HTPC via a VGA, as the TV has no DVI connection. This hasn't been a problem in the past.

I am thinking that it is somehow related to the recent CVS upgrade and the ATI Catalyst download from V6.2 to 6.3. Previously I had my desktop resolution set to 1280 x 768 @ 60Hz and MP and XP were happy and no changes were made.

However, now XP will not allow me to set to this resolution...The highest being 1080 x 768 @ 70Hz. The only way to set to the higher resolution is forcing it from within ATI application.

I am now left with a jump in resolution and blurred text whenever I return to the HOME screen. Initially it's fine in any screen and only when I jump back to the start screen. I have to exit MP and my desktop resolution has also changed. I then reset in ATI and all is fine until I repeat the process of going back to the main menu.

Unfortunately my GRUNDIG only has SCART (which still is a good connection), no VGA or DVI. A DVI or VGA to SCART Box is going to cost me around $200, and the DVI to Component Video adapter (I could then get a component to SCART adapter) for my graphics card (it cost AU$40'ish) only MIGHT (probably not) work in Australia. So I have to use S-Video or Composite. This means I can't change the resolution just like another monitor (and I can't seem to change the TV's res from 1024x768, or I can't find where). So I guess my real problem is how to cahnge the resolution of the TV.
