Default WinXP or Vista for a new MP installation?

I am about to install MP in a computer which will be *mostly* used as a media center -not really a lot more (maybe P2P and perhaps some editing of the recordings (cutting, pasting, converting to other formats...), but that's about it.

Shall I use WinXP or Vista?.

Which one performs better with MP?. What about drivers-wise?

Keeping in mind Vista is more resource-hungry, is it worth in the above mentioned scenario?

Would recommend for HTPC, XP pro sp2, mainly because the support is so good, and you should be able to pick up a copy very cheaply in comparison to Vista.

Yes i know i have Vista Ultimate, but this is my plaything.

I'd say XP SP2 as well - Vista can be quite a hog (not that XP isn't a cow, but it's better than Vista) and does have some pretty serious driver and support issues.

If you're going to be doing ripping/conversion/p2p on the box you want to make it as efficient as possible. Since MP is going to be handling most of the visualization when it's running as a media center it will look just as nice on XP. When you're running your other apps you're going to want as much RAM as possible available so you'll probably end up turning off most of the touchy/feely settings in vista anyway.
