Default Comskip

A couple of quick questions that I hope someone can answer quickly for me:

- I have instaled comskip. If I watch a program from myvideos it now skips the ads really nicely, but it doesn't do it from recorded tv. I have read that its a manual process from there.. I am using a standard mce remote and I have not customised the buttons at all. What button should I press to skips the ads? Or do I have to configure it manually?

- Using the mce remote, how do I configure it to act like it does in mce.. ie pressing the SKIP button should move forward 1 minute, pressing the |< REPLAY button should skip back something like 10 seconds.. Is this easily achieved?

- I have a bunch of programs already recorded, how do I run comskip over them all? Can I do this automatically?

- If I change the recording folder for tv, will it shift the programs I've already recorded or can I do this manually and everything will still work?

- I have no thumbnails for my recordings with tvserver.. why not? Does it support the creation of thumbnails?

Sorry for all the questions, I hope someone can help.

Cheers!

Mine is working fine from recorded tv as well. I think this was fixed months ago. Is the option in your General Configuration for auto Comskip enabled?

To skip, just use the left and right button. The skip steps are also customizable, but the defaul is that one press of the right button will skip 15 secs. Three right button presses will skip 1 minute. See Configuration, General, Skip Steps.

I'm not sure how to auto-comskip your existing files. Manually, you do them one by one from the comskip plugin configuration by using the TEST buttton.

Are you using the inbuilt tv or the TV-server? The tv server has functionality to import recording when the folder has changed. (ahh I see you next sentence refer to tv-server)

Not sure about the thumbs...

Sorry I don't quite understand, do you mean that when watching from recorded tv that it skips over the ads automatically? I'm using tvserver but it only skips automatically when I watch the program from myvideos. Also the left and right buttons don't skip over the ads, they only skip the usualy 15, 30 1min, 3mins etc..

..confused..

I have also found that since migrating to the TV Server has stopped the auto skip function of comskip. Is this a 'feature' in TV3? Or is it just a bug nobody really cares about too much?

I have my buttons set to skip and everything and they just skip the usual 15s - 30s - 1min no matter if there is a comskip file there or not.

oh crap that's a shame, this is a must have feature in my family.. how about getting comskip to remove the offending content rather than just creating the marker files? Is that possible?

The comskip support will automatically jump commercials when the data is available.

It works 100% on TV Engine 2 setups (no TV Server).

It will not work with TV Server in the Recorded TV section. You can make it work by using My Videos and going to a shared folder that contains the recordings.

Some people have reported it will work on Single Seat TV-Server setups.

The feature will be extended to TV Server multi-seat setups in the future but we are in a rather lengthy Feature-Freeze at the moment.

After MediaPortal 1.0 and TV Server 1.0 are released I'll look into it again.

In the meantime you should be able to set it up to automatically cut the commercials from the recording when it finishes... There is a comclean component that can be called immediately after ComSkip finishes and it can alter the recording file to remove the adverts.

Find out more about ComClean at the ComSkip website.

Cheers,
