Default Does upgrading TV-Engine require clean MP install?

As I understand it, upgrading TV-Engine also requires (most of the time?) upgrading to the latest SVN nightly of MediaPortal.

Now, the documentation states that a SVN nightly of MP should never be installed over an already updated version. (See UserGuides/SVN-nighly-builds - MediaPortal Wiki Documentation) Is this still correct, or do most people just install a new SVN over an already updated system, without problems?

Thanks, Peter

Hi Peter,

The basic rule is to always upgrade MP when you install a new version of TV3E. If you don't you may end up with all sorts of strange issues.

With respect to a clean install of MP, I rarely do that. I overlay the new SVN on top of the existing one. I seldom have any issues here but every now and then I do a clean install of MP as well.

Good luck!

/Peter

It's bad advice on my part, but I haven't had a clean install of MP for well over a year.
I always just upgrade over the top.

If I ever get a strange issue that appears to be specifically my problem and isn't reported by others, then I will do a clean install.

So, if you are lazy, just install TVE3 over the top.
If it doesn't work, then try a clean install...

I updated the wiki to be a bit more relaxed about installing TVE

the main thing to remember is that if you are as "gung ho" about updates as I am, then you really shouldn't be posting bug reports if you find something until after you have done a clean install. I know that if it goes horribly wrong, then it is all my own fault and I made the gamble to try and save time.

Exactly as I wrote in the wiki; if things don't go as excepted -- do a clean install
