Default How long does your Hauppauge card take to start??

Hi Guys,

I'm using TV server on Vista (client on XP) and when I start watching a stream through my Hauppauge PVR-250MCE capture card it has a long delay after I click on until it starts playing video - like 7-8 seconds. By comparision my Digital FTA card (DVB-T) only takes about 2 seconds - have other people got similar delay times with Hauppauge cards? This hasn't changed with different builds etc - it's always been this way. (Changing channels is quick - it's just the initial turning on that is slow)

I've attached a log showing the delay on the server but at the moment I'm just trying to understand if this is expected behaviour

Thanks

Hi BKCH

I use a Hauppauge PVR-150 on my desktop where I like to try MediaPortal updates before applying them to my HTPC.

I have found it takes longer to start up than the Hauppauge HVR-4000s I have in my HTPC. Also, for the first 5 seconds or so the picture is black & white and has some interference and then suddenly changes to colour and is OK form then on. Channel changes are also fairly quick. When I have used the Hauppauge PVR-500 (which is essentially 2 PVR-150s on one card) in my HTPC it has been similar.

I believe that someone in another thread said that it took longer to initially build the graph for analogue cards than digital ones so that is probably the reason.

You guys should be grateful, it used to take over 20 seconds before I found that bug . I don't have one now, or I would take a look at it.

lol - glad you found that one diehard2!!!

I'm starting to suspect it could be a vista thing - but before I rebuild my server to XP it would be great to find out if other users have similar delays

I have similar delays with 2 hvr-1600 cards on Windows 2003. These cards are analog and digital (ATSC). Startup for ATSC is much quicker than analog, but I'd still like both to be faster if possible.

I'm a Vista user with a HVR-4000 and with latest SVNs things improved a lot. I was on 15/20 secs before, I'm now on 4/5 secs...

Also channel zapping is good now, 2 secs...even if it's still slower than in WinTV but the Hauppauge application doesn't need to take in to account all possible graphs for all possible cards

Take a look at this fantastic patch from misterd to solve your issues with analog cards: http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/pa...ds-t33290.html

My Nova-T card is really quick, couple of seconds. However my new Nova-S2-HD card takes ages, and channel changes on it also take ages. I really dislike the affect the S2 card has had on my system - completely messed it up. oh well...

EDIT: I take it all back. Since my reinstall of windows and MP, both cards are working great, and they dont take much more than a few seconds to turn on.
