not meaning to be real pedantic, but have you posted a bug report on the problems you are facing with your system. Maybe it is a problem with your hardware, but without logs your problems can not be diagnosed or resolved. As like the other posts in this thread, I am running TV Server without too many problems (a lockup evey 2 days but I am still diagnosing the issue...maybe a TV Card Driver issue).

On saying that, I am not defending the team either, as I would like to see this application to exceed the market expectation on HTPC's in features and reliability!

From a Documentation Team member point of View, we are trying to cover/document every problem that can occur but as you seem to be well aware, each instance of MediaPortal installation has it's own circumstances. Being in the frame of mind of helping the communtiy will be better assistance to all of us instead of dismissing the product at the first point of failure.

NOTE:- this is no attack on you at all in any means ...

Kind regards

Charli181

Well, it's been a while, but I've tested with the new 1.0. And I don't like it.
I still can't get things to work the way I want and I won't try server/client setup again. What I did find out is that most of you don't own VERY large screens and because of that don't see the flaws that server/client has.

Besides that, with the client/server version I get the infamous 'Unable to start timeshifting. No video/audio detected' error. That's an error that haunts TVserver/FloppyDTV combo's since version 1. And is still there. (so much for completely new code, ). And that FloppyDTV card goes recommended...
All in all client/server is not a very usable setup for me.

Back to stand alone (version 0.2.3, as the new version always installs the dreaded tvserver crap). I'm (very) done with TVserver. I've wasted too much time with it as it is.

I have a 50" screen that I sit quite close to. It looks fine to me.

Image quality is strongly affected by process priority I have found with the server. Have you got your process priority set to high for the server?

Otherwise, I'd suggest codec issues.

I gave up on MP several months ago and decided to make a comeback 4 weeks ago.

I am so bloody impressed with the way MP works now in my multi seat setup. I keep telling my wife how glad i am to have given MP another go.

The only issues i was having with it this time around were resolved and were NOT caused by MP. It was all hardware related ( like cards not seated properly and too strong a signal going into TV cards etc... ).

einstein72, can i suggest you start posting your issues on the forums along with your log files ?? If your issues are software related, it would be good to sort them out, not just for you but for others as well...
In the mean time, do a little more digging and take a closer look at your hardware. You may supprise yourself.

cheers

I always find it funny when someone can't get something to work so decide the whole thing is crap, despite the claims that so many other people have no issues.

Sure, it's not your fault, the software is crap.
At least in you last post you added that it wasn't useable "for you" which is a step up from the blanket "unuseable" that you titled the thread with.

Please be more considerate with your wording. People volunteer a LOT of their time on this project and you calling it crap and unuseable despite what seems to be no bug reports or log posting (can't really be bothered to check that) does not help their enthusiasm. Yes, you have struck a nerve. I've seen a few good devs give up from the endless complaints to their work...
