Default Tv Server and external receiver

I installed the tv server application after running MediaPortal for a while and getting frustrated with random external channel change issues that would work a few times then never change channel again till i restarted the app.

So I decided to to try TV server and see if i have better luck.

I have an external Dish Network receiver connected to a PVR250 card using SVHS connection and I use xmlTV as a tv guide.

I had both working fine in Media Portal.

TV guide willl not import properly it says imported 300 odd channels and 0 programs!

and how do I import external channels?

Please help

I guess nobody uses extrenal settop sattelite receivers with TV server!

I'm just wondering why did you guys change the XML format for the channel import?

I was able to import all of the channels from the tvguide.xml in Media Portal but now I'm stuck mannually adding 314 channels on SVHS1 input.

I guess this is called progress.

I would appreciate some help before I give up on media portal

Thanks

Sorry, but i would revert to the version that worked for you.

If the above quote incorrect, use MPTesttool found under start\programs\mediaportal and post logs.

Everything about TVE3 is Beta and liable to change for all of us.

I have 2 settop boxes. If you're using schedule direct as your source I'd recommend switching to the schedule direct plugin instead of XMLTV, it works great.

I heard about schedule direct but how does this help me with the external channel setup on TVserver?

You mentioned that you have two settop boxes did you manually had to setup each individual channel?
and what plugin do you use to change channels?

Thanks for any further info Eh

Schedule Direct is similar to the old Zap2it labs. You setup your TV channels on their website. The schedule direct plugin then grabs this channel configuration and up to 13 days of EPG data. The plugin will automatically add all the channels to TV3. You then just need to map the channels to the card in your computer.

To change channels I use the IR Server Suite.

Thanks Static Man

I would like to ask you for a favour.

Can you be kind enough to export your channel info in the TVserver channel setup and paste a sample of the XML file for one channel to give me an idea on what it should look like

How do you feed your set top boxes into the capture card S-video or cable?

Thanks

I go in through Svideo.

Here's a sample channel, this was completely setup by the schedule direct plugin:

<channel Name="240 CITV" GrabEpg="False" IdChannel="2870" IsRadio="False" IsTv="True" LastGrabTime="2008-1-1 9:27:29" SortOrder="196" TimesWatched="0" TotalTimeWatched="2000-1-1 0:0:0" VisibleInGuide="True" FreeToAir="True" DisplayName="240 CITV">
<mappings>
<map IdCard="2" IdChannel="2870" IdChannelMap="2884" />
</mappings>
<TuningDetails>
<tune IdChannel="2870" IdTuning="2869" AudioPid="-1" Bandwidth="8" ChannelNumber="240" ChannelType="0" CountryId="34" Diseqc="0" FreeToAir="True" Frequency="0" MajorChannel="-1" MinorChannel="-1" Modulation="0" Name="240 CITV" NetworkId="-1" PcrPid="-1" PmtPid="-1" Polarisation="0" Provider="" ServiceId="-1" SwitchingFrequency="0" Symbolrate="0" TransportId="-1" TuningSource="0" VideoPid="-1" VideoSource="4" SatIndex="-1" InnerFecRate="-1" Band="0" Pilot="-1" RollOff="-1" Url="" Bitrate="0" />
</TuningDetails>
</channel>

fixed

I appreciate your help!

I got the system up and running configured with three channels set up manually to test now i just have to figure out how to add 300+ channels automatically from tvguide.xml

FYI:

Here is what I Got for a system

Older Asus Pentium motherboard running a P3 1GHz cpu with 512 Mb RAM and 2 TB of storage running Windows Home Server OEM. with a Hauppage PVR250 and a Hauppage PVR150 MCE capture card and gigabit Ethernet!

I got TVServer installed and I'm using XMLTV as a free tvGuide.
I use the server Blaster with a Microsoft eHome Transmitter Receiver (using MCE drivers and it works on win2003)to change channels. (Took me a while to figure out that you need the blaster.dat file placed into a certain directory)

I use a coolsat 6000 FTA connected to the capture card using S-video

For clients I use an Asus P4P800 MB running a P4 3.2Ghz system with 1GB ram in a D-Vine HTPC case running Media Portal and three Xboxes running XBMC.

Thanks again

I'd recommend Schedule Direct. It's $20/year and saves a ton of hassle with channel setup.

How is WHS? Where did you buy the OEM version? I'm thinking of setting up a system with it myself.
