Question Vista and EVR support

Hi.

Is EVR currently supported by Mediaportal?

If not, is it planned?

If yes, when?

If soon, thank you

Bye bye!

PS I am a programmer.....

I would guess that no, it isn't supported...

But thats purely because i have no idea what EVR is, never heard of it, especially in relation to MediaPortal or Vista

Care to expand on it a little?

OK, i was nosey, so i did some digging

EVR = Enhanced Video Renderer

This appears to be a replacement for VMR9. Sounds pretty good, no video tearing, less jitter and framedrops. I think it is easier to code for and works better with Aero.

As far as i know there are no Vista specific enhancements in MP at the moment and .NET 3 is only just being used. Most of the recent work has been going into the new TVEngine, perhaps after that has been moved out of beta and heavy development, the video rendering will be looked at. I don't know

EDIT: See this thread as well - http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/ti...&highlight=EVR

The interest in EVR is mainly because of new nvdia drivers that supports 8500/8600 series with full H.264 hardware decoding but only in Vista with EVR (PurevideoHD).

Bye

I'd be pretty surprised if Nvidia would only supply drivers that support H.264 hardware decoding under EVR, unless (DXVA 2.0) is required ofc. Sadly I don't know that for sure but Nvidia using the word "currently" lets me hope

Kind Regards, Muldini

Until it is either back ported XP, or Vista has a much larger market share, I don't see it being added. But hey, who knows.

EVR already works for XP..

I'd like to see this too since I'm using Vista too.
There's already MPC and KMplayer with EVR support, I don't see why MediaPortal shouldn't have it.

EVR support would be great! I just bought a 8600-card and three days ago Sweden started h.264-HD-broadcasts in DVB-T. I am currently watching SVT HD using DVB viewer GE that supports EVR but I would like to switch to MP as soon as the new engine is released.

I saw that Frodo was interested in implementing EVR. How much work would this actually be, Frodo? Is it possible to get into the upcoming release or is it already "feature-locked"?

/me has this on his wish list as well. With more and more broadcasters moving to h264, it will increasingly become a wanted capability.

+1 in favour of EVR support (death to tearing and exclusive mode)
