Question Whats a TV sever?

Can someone please tell me what do i put in the name of the TV server !? I installed this hoping that i could record TV shows to Divx or .mpg or something but it won't show live TV until I tell it the name of a Media server. I'm not streaming the video from anywhere i just plugged the coaxial cable into the back. I tried the TV set up but Ireland was not in the latter part of the setup where it asked you what region you lived in.

Thank you in advance to anyone who will reply with a suitable answer.

If using everything on a single pc, then the server name is the same as the pc's (start menu\computer right click and select properties for this).

The only thing you should have to put in manually, is the password "MediaPortal"

The deploy tool should have done this automaticlay but the name of the server is the name or ip address of the pc that the TVSERVER master is installed on, the password should be set to 'MediaPortal'

For all config options use the desktop shortcut to 'TV-Server Configuration'

When doing a scan try the 'Uk all regions' if your transmitter isn't listed as this will try all available frequencies.

If you know your tramnsmitter and frequencies and they aren't listed post back here the details os they can be added by a DEV.

Post back if youhave more difficulties, include PC specs, OS and tuner type, name

Are you on a user account or admin, are you using xp or vista.

The more information you supply the better the answer will be.

I'm the admin but it doesn't matter( for the help though) i got that bit working after another hour or two of tinkering.
I tried to scaning under UK all regions but i left it for 2 hours and nothing had changed! How long do I have to leave it for??

You need to scan from TVServer config\TVServer\name of your pc\TVCard name\scan for channels.

70 channels here take a minute.

Which TVCard are you using.

You should be producing some logs by now.

Use the 'MediaPortal Test Tool' to gather the logs and upload them via 'manage attachements'

Also full pc spec would be helpful.

Do not have a version 2, MEDIAPORTAL - free MediaCenter HTPC Software - MediaPortal Downloads

Release Candidate
V1.0.0.0 RC1

is the latest release.

Could well be the medion TVCard, as have had problems with them not being seen correctly by TVServer.
