::this:: is still valid.

MediaPortal is designed for Windows.
There are other alternatives for Mac and Linux.

MP-II contains an internal UPnP server

What are the current features in the UPnP server? Can I have the UPnP server working without the MP gui open?

Yes is down,
there isn't a chance to port mp to multiplatform if the main programmer not work into this way,
or it' s very very hard.

This is not a complaint but a fact, in any case mp remains the best solution, i have make a big thanks to mp team...

Mp on my ubuntu will remain a big dream

Hopefully there will be a chance to get a thin client (may be web based) to run on other platforms like Mac or Linux even if the main application is windows based..

For me MP is the only reason to have a windows pc running too.
I love MP

Linux is useless for HTPCs IMHO. It makes no use of ATIs UVD/NVIDIAs PureVideo, there is no alternative to ReClock (which is why I do not use Vista). Even if there was a top-notch HTPC software for Linux, I would not use it.

Just wanted to weigh in with the request to evaluate a much more scalable database back-end. Everyone's collections will only grow, and speaking as someone with a fairly large collection (2000 movies, 8000 tv episodes), the current system is just toooooo slow. Speed issues probably don't turn up in test environments and by the time users like me use it, the design, testing, and future has already been set in stone.
