I think architecture should be communicated / discussed first, since it is key to get a stable and scalable product.

the use of stable and development branches is considered.

however, at first we need a stable version that is able to do the basics.
which then will represent our stable branch and then use that as basis for the development branch.

muuuuuuuch work to do

Will there then be a way to update automaticaly to the latest STABLE release so we don't have to uninstall everything when a new version comes out...this I find is frustrating in current MP

the new NSIS installer allready allows to "update" an old version to a new one.

an inbuild updatefeature is planed by using a new version of MediaPortalInstaller.

Not to beat a dead horse, but when the alpha does come out will it be at least complete enough to begin porting plugins over? Or will it be more of a "learn how it works" type of release?

i can not tell you at this point how much will be changed after the first alpha release which then has an impact on community plugins.

since it is an alpha you will have to expect issues and changes which means that you have to adapt your plugin.
but thats what an alpha stands for.

Do you mean by this that we will have to derive the architecture from the sourcecode ??

I haven't read the whole thread so maybe my question is already answered.
First of all. Great work! I think this is the right step.

The question.
Has cross-platform compatibility been taken in consideration?
mono (the Unix .NET clone) is supporting more and more features. Maybe enough for MPII to run on Linux?
