hope all goes as planned

also hope that each project won't mess the other (either way) and good stuff from the new core that is easy to implement in the current core, WILL be implemented in the current core

also I hope I read about menu customization wrong (in the sense of MP2 being the first generation to actually implement this! this would be VERY scary)

I think that this could be a very interesting function in MP2: http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/th...ght=thumbnails

There won't be back porting. It is just not possible. We have started from the ground up, it will not be possible to bring this code back into the current system. Bringing new features from MP2 back to MP1 would mean writing them twice, with the possibility of introducing new bugs into the current system.

The future is the new system and when it is ready it will replace the old one.

hmmm I wonder if this whole thing would be for the worse

in what sense:

even now with development only for MP, people (MP being open source and dev in their free time) don't have enough time to have a "fast enough" development cycle - sometimes features get pushed back to 2 or 3 "dot" releases which means 6 months easily!

wouldn't parallel development of a new core, "split" their time?
and after a while even "at the expense" of the already working core?

just a thought - please comment

...

...

of course if MP2 is what is finally NEEDED to get those (**((*&Y^6*())(*!!! customizable home menu items, so be it

Yet, MP is shining with features other HTPC solutions are still lacking although developers are charging money for it. Microsoft's Media Center doesn't even support DVB-S.
Comparing MCE 2005 and Vista's Media Center, I can't find any additional features that actually make sense. No DVB-S, no DVB-C and thus no HDTV. At least not here in Germany.

Media Portal's development cycle is more than fast enough, look what other HTPC apps have to offer.

Simon

lol you are only intersted in that customize able menus uh?

MediaPortal 1 is in featurefreeze and that wont change in the near future (if ever). this means no new features only bugfixes.
that ensures that we are able to focus on MediaPortal 2 development.

and we do not push ourselfes in a hurry. so it doesnt matter to us if it takes 2, 4 or 6 months if we get it done.
the only important thing is that we get it done properly.

Take your time and get it right!
I for one think MP is fantastic, just a little short of perfect.
A stable platform for MP2 is vital for the continuing growth of the project, if it is correct, then the future will look amazing!!

I'm just hoping a simple 'random play' function will exist - that and all the other functionality that is

I think this is a good thing to have a new version BUT by my findings this is only needed for the TV section, all the other parts work as they should a part from a small bug here and there but nothing mayor...

I think the TV part needs to be designed to the maximum and have many discussions and brainstorming. Also the best thing would be to work your way up, starting from the basics, showing LIVE tv for example, so just showing nothing else, then if this works perfect start working on the next thing and so on....

Is the TV part already being worked on or are there some main ideas/plans yet?
