Default Wow

What other feedback could one very admiring bystander give but...Wow! ???

Your vision of a more, dare I say, ubiquitous architecture will allow MP to blossom into a "Swiss Army Knife" media tool.

Thanks for the awesome ride so far guys!

Fantastic news, keep up the great work guys.

Will the new MP2 be installable alongside the "old lady" MP. Just thinking about all those of that want to be able to play (beta test) the new version without running the gauntlet of messing up the existing MP configuration and getting in strife with "she who must be obeyed" :-)

well........ the average user does not always want to constantly leave the main application just for a small change in configuration.

the end-user will be able to do as much as possible inside the GUI. so he does not have to close MediaPortal 2
i.e. change audio/video codecs, download and install new plugins/skins/updates, change the skin, change the theme, add new shares ect.

that all will also be possible in the external application + other "complex" things like tweaking the menu.

ofc, you will be able to test the alpha version without uninstalling MediaPortal 0.2.3.0

Finally a little bit more than rumors about v II.

I was glad to read about the general media / database manager part. Is it true, that we can have something called "My Pictures" also show my own (captured) videos (and maybe rename it to "My Memories" or something)? Is it OK to have music videos in my Music? A seperate entry for Audio Books (and hide them in my Music)?

Browse for a film in my local movies repository & the upcoming TV schedules?

If so, thumbs up!

One thing, though, what is the reason you moved away from WPF/XAML??? I am very suprised you found it "too limited" as my personal experiance shows a little more like "too large/feature rich"? Not questioning your design decisions, just plain curious.

Another question: is the TV UPNP server based on the TVE3? *UPDATE* Which TV? I should have read correctly & not started drooling ;-)

the first step is a TV-Plugin that simply connects to the TV-Server (simmilar to the TV Plugin of MediaPortal 0.2.3.0).
a redesign of the whole TV-Service is talked about but that is far, far future talk.

primary focus is on MediaPortal 2 - Alpha 1 Codename "infinity".

Not by default, but a version for MPII is already in the works and will most likely be ready when the preview is released. You can then just select to download and install it from with MPII :-)

indeed.

community plugins will play a major role in MediaPortal 2.
the main application will be able to do the "basic's" (which are allready quite many features in the end ).
for these "basic features" we have dedicated developers (music, tv, videos, ect.).
features like online music videos, TV-Series wil be a downloadable community plugin.
which is extremely easy to install/update, because you can browse, download and install the available content from inside MediaPortal 2.

this means that community plugins will be used much more, which then hopefuly is a motivation for the author to support it as long as possible.
since these community plugins are in an "open" svn-repository virtualy everyone can get access too, its also easily possible that the author is adding more developers to his staff to work on his plugin, or a developer picks up an abandoned plugin.

the other side is that since we do not have "every plugin" inside the main application it will be much more stable, and the team members are able to focus "on their strong areas", instead of fixing (or ultimately removing) the plugins from developers which got lost.

iloop is right
The idea is that we provide the core plumbing and the basic plugins
with the core plumbing it becomes very easy to use services like databases, media management, playback etc etc
Also plugin developers should be able to enhance/change/modify the default plugins from their own plugin
So yes a 3th party developer should be able to modify my pictures (a default plugin) and make it so that it
also shows movies
