I'd love to hear how things are progressing?
And what are your expectations when the next version is released? Do you expect people to crossover from mp1 to mp2? Or is it still too soon for that? |

Things are progressing - but much effort is directed at getting MP1 final out the door ATM. I think things will speed up after it is released

So these past 6 months since MP2 was announced has been all about releasing a stable, superseded MP1?
Uh, why? Or, if there's good reason, then why was MP2 announced 6 months ago as a teaser? Why not a) not announce it b) not even start it I've been waiting these past months hoping that a MP2 beta would be forthcoming. It's clear now that it will likely be a year or more before anything useful comes out. By then, who knows what else will be out there. Oh well. Bye. |

I'm sorry you feel disapointed.
However, when we started MPII the plans were to have it moving faster and working quicker. Progress has been made since the preview release, but much of this is in the code (clean up and improvement). There are many problems in MP1 which can only be solved with the new architecture design of MPII. However, we cannot simply let MP1 drop and work only on MPII, because many people are using it (include all developers). So many of the team developers will not start working on MPII until MP1 is finished. In the mean time a few developers are working on MPII to keep it moving forward. As always remember there are not unlimited hours in the day. We all have (or try to have) normal lives with family commitments, etc. We try to balance all this and keep everything moving forward as quickly as possible. Also complaints never help motivate people. /James |

dir,
As James said, just because a MP2 is planned, they cant just drop all the work on MP1. I would much rather have a stable & working MP1 that I can use on a daily basis while waiting for MP2, as opposed to having a buggy MP1 while waiting for a MP2! This is normal in Software Development - e.g. They didnt stop work on Firefox 2 because Firefox 3 was being developed! Also, as is mentioned plenty of times on this forum, if you want MP2 to progress faster how about you join in and help? This is a free product, made by people in their spare time. They have no obligations, no deadlines. They do it out of generosity. I believe that when MP2 was announced 6 months ago they did not foresee this delay - but it seems things have changed since then. The number of active developers has dwindled, and they have re-written things since the Tech preview. I can understand your frustration, but you must be patient! |

There have also been things written for MP1, that will aid MP2 as well.
A good example of this is the installer. This would have been no small piece of work to get it functioning as desired, and no doubt took developers time away from squishing bugs in MP1 or moving MP2 further along. However, without it, both versions of MP would remain complicated to install and off puting to new users. So if you take a look at the larger view of it, time spent on this is time very well spent. |

I'm not disappointed. I'm happy that progress is still being made @ the mp1 front. And that behind the scene people are already working on something new.
I cannot help but be annoyed by dirs post though. keep up the good work, and I'm looking forward to using mp2 in the future.. |
