If it were possible to integrate with DirectShow would you consider WPF?

The reason I ask is that WPF is very complex and has a lot of features and to reimplement it with a watered down version seem to be the wrong course of action.

VideoRendererElement - Home

The VideoRendererElement allows for high-performance, custom video in WPF.
With the VideoRendererElement, a developer can update a pixel buffer or video media sample and have it render in WPF space at MediaElement speed. It is compatible with GDI, DirectShow and direct pixel updates.

Even if something like my VRE isn't used, there is about to be a WPF update that allows for the pixel shaders and real Direct3D integration (D3D rendering to WPF space).

I figure this might be a good path for you guys (given the performance of the d3d integration is up to par). That way u could use your current d3d video rendering in WPF space.

I just feel it would be a very bad idea for the TMP team to spend half their time implementing something that is already there (even if it is limited and closed source).

Rather spend all the time creating one control that can be used in standard WPF than implement an entire WPF engine just to render one control...

Hi there!
Thanks for your thoughts about WPF, DirectShow integration and the idea to use the VideoRendererElement. But by now, our WPF engine is almost ready. At the moment, we are very short of programmers who are good in graphics programming, thats why it takes so long to finish it :-)

Our current plan is to first finish our own engine, and then to integrate special controls for the video and music rendering. When the engine works, I'll inspect the VideoRendererElement - maybe we can integrate it as a control in our controls library? But it will still take some time.

Just to stir this debate again, I made a video of the MeediOS alpha which uses a WPF engine.

The animations and transitions are really smooth with resonable CPU overhead(really needs a core duo though).

Some of the developers are looking at a dvd player solution at the moment.

Please, no cross posing... the off topic thread is enough for the talk.
