1. Windows Media Player is not used in MP for playback, directshow is.

2. After quickly looking that wrapper, there is no possibility to use directx suffaces as the destionation for the video -> useless for MP.

why do you need to use directx and what player do you use

MP is controlling directly the direct show graph for video playback. DirectX is used for the MP GUI and for the video playback as its the only way to get hardware acceleration with current codecs. VLC is only software based when it comes to video decoding or deinterlacing.

As much as I love VLC, I dont see any problem with MP as it currently stands.

With FFDShow and a couple of other Codecs I can play every video that I have ever come across with no issues.

As mentioned - Hardware Acceleration.
