Summary: To use MP with a Touch Screen we need an extra Interface for the TouchScreen Display

Description: HTPC TouchScreen User have many problems with display resolutions and the touch funktion ...

The most want to control MP with the TouchScreen for listen music and other things, but not for TV or Video.
The desktop clone mode is not useable because we have 4:3 for the TouchScreen and 16:9 for the TV screen.
... and i cannot watch tv on 2 displays at same time... it confuse a little bit... ;-)

1. Display 7" TFT TouchScreen 800x600 (HD160XT)
- extended desktop display
# special TouchScreen Interface for all MP functions except TV / Video and Music Visualisation
# on / off Button for the 2. LCD display
# start TV / Video or Music auto enable the 2. Display

2. Display 24" LCD 1920x1200
- set to primary display
# MP Display for all sections ("clone from TouchScreen with more functions like directX")

sort of problems:
different display resolutions
- are only in extended desktop mode possible, directX is only on the primary display available!
- MP runs on XP only on the directX enabled primary display, but this is not the problem...
- set the second display to primary and extend the desktop to the first display
=> we have MP on the second Display

? what we need is the possibility of a special second TouchScreen Interface on the first Display

touchscreen
- is not useable with the default skin
- the touch express allways the left mouse button and activates all now
- the touch do not release and the menu will scroll...

?=> TouchScreen Interface skin
- we need all the time scroll buttons, no mouse scrolling and big buttons ;-)

ZalmanHD160XT User improvements...
We have no software support from zalman for the remote control, fan control and case buttons.
The MPlay Zini software for this functions is crap.

The HTPC is in most cases only for Mediaportal and we like to control the vl-systems hardware for the remote control, case buttons and i think it would fantastic for the fan control with Mediaportal.

The API for all is a serial <=> usb interface...
I have tried the remote control learn function and it works a little
The commands from the vl-system hardware are to strange for mediaportal.
I think it needs a little customizing to bring the remote control and buttons to work.

(PS: personaly i do not need the fan control in MP, have the bad software fan control changed with hardware fan control T-BalancerNG)

thanks in advance

SOLUTIONS (HD160XT)

TouchScreen configuration
- enable the touch and release option for the TouchScreen

alternative HD160XT Remote/Button/Fan Software from Daniel Rolf...

This kind of feature is totally useless for at least 95% of users.

There is so much more basic features that must be paid attention to at this moment so please try to keep some sense in mind.

There is probably more issues that is more important... But... This is a really important feature that will make mediaportal more attractive for people who owns or plan to buy a high-end htpc...

If noone ask for this feature, there will probably never be such features...

At this moment there is probably a minority that has a touch-screen at the htpc case.. But there is a lot of people that use a second monitor with the htpc...

Cases with touchscreen had have a price drop at atleast 20% since april... (Norwegian market) if the price will drop about 100€ on these cases, you probably will talk to mass market... (Zalman HD160XT Plus has a pricetag about 500€)

I'm not aware of any mediacenters that has this feature we are requesting for here..
(i know Soundgraph - Imon has some of this capabilityes... but that "mediacenter" is really really bad...)

I agree,

With the big corps really starting to focus on the HTPC market it is important that MP stays ahead of the pack(which it is at the moment by a long way). Rather than loads of focus on broadcast TV playback/recording which doesn't have a lot of steam left, new ways of implementing the HTPC into the home would be great. I don't have a touch screen but it is something that I will be looking to get soon, the biggest problem at the moment for me is needing to have the TV on to access music.

i need a solution for different resolutions in Mediaportal II to use 2 monitors. i have a plasma-tv with 1280x720 and a tft in my case with 640x480..
clone modus dont works, but perhaps Mediaportal can display on extended display (on both screens the same pictures).

How do you know this? It is not a good style to make other people's suggestions down.

The industrie is working very hard to integrate touch functionalty in any display in the future by using small cameras on a pixel level. Samsung just presented a prototype and Microsoft Research is working on something similar.

So from my point of view touch screens should be considered in the design of Media Portal 2.

@ seco
It is not your requirement, but many users with HTPC's (TouchScreen) or second display want this feature.

@ Christoph (aka chrispi) & crimz
thanks for your comments...

my 50 cents. i have a touch screen to control music, radio etc. without having to turn on tv anytime. it is still the most convenient way than any other "smart"/powerfull remote paying even more than a touchscreen

I've got the Zalman HD160XT. Another 2 friends too. Theres 2 guys with the XE15 (TFT touch screen) too because I sold them.

I think that is a VERY IMPORTANT feature.

We use nVidia 8800 GTS in the HTPC and the driver allows both screens in diferent resolutions, so this problem is resolved. The GREAT problem is how to stay the control in TFT and the video in TV. This is what the MP team could work.

Hi JmJ17,

just a quick question: what do you mean with "allows both screens in diferent resolutions"? Does that mean you get clone mode with two different resolutions? This would indeed be great, however, I can't believe it's the case...

Thanks,
Michael
