Default Love Touchscreen support

Hi,

Just my 2 cents.

I have a setup with a few HTPCs in my house.
1 of them is a UMPC by my bed, allowing me to watch TV, listen to music and so on the last few minutes before sleep as well. :-). Works really good but I have to use the few hot-keys mapped to the most important functions like "esc", "enter" and "space".

I think more and more people may have devices like this. When cooking food, when wanting to get away from the family to watch som sportevent and so on.

These devices have strange resolutions though: 800*480 or 1024*600.

Dont know if this input is worth something...

Thanks!

/Jonas

PS Forgot to mention that "geasture" support would be great for touch screen....

One last comment. Why cant we have a PPC as the secondary display with touchscreen support? Now that you have all the logic for 2 screens, this should be a cool next step?

/Jonas

i hope MPII becomes a Modus, that can display MP in extended modus, i dont mean the solution with the plugin on the first site for MPI. MPII should be display the Menu on both Displays with different resulutions, like the clone modus, but not with the same resulution. i hope and pray.

Touchscreen support:
The development of MP-II will focus on getting the basic features up & running.
I agree that a touchscreen interface sounds cool but first we must get MP-II to a stage where it can compete with the other major media center applications out there

Dual-display
Same thing here. Our focus is writing a media center application.
Thats an application which runs fullscreen on your TV and plays your media
I do agree that it would be really nice to have 2 displays where MP-II runs on 1 display and the windows desktop on the 2nd display. However this is not our primary focus

Things might be added later on, when MP-II is much more mature.
Offcourse anybody is free to add support for touchscreens/dual displays and submit a nice clean patch
We are an opensource application after all

As frodo said, the current MPII development is focused on basic features and to get things running. But, this doesn't mean that the future UI work hasn't started. When MPII's user interface is finished, there will be no need for a non-touch/touch control option in the configuration. The UI will work out-of-the-box with either a remote, keyboard, mouse or touch control. And this is also going to be made in a stylish way so visible mouse/touch controls won't disturb the GUI in any way. And also note that the new XAML graphic engine should allow us to dynamically fit the MPII content to the screen res without any need for non-proportionate scaling (usable for strange touch devices resolutions).

Default MultiTouch interfaces

With respect to touch screens, I think that the media portal interface is very well suited for a MULIT touch interface.

Check :: Perceptive Pixel :: for a very advanced demonstration

And Touchlib - Home for the open source community.

martijn

Hi first, i think, and that`s what the voting says, that there is even more need for a good working Touchscreen support then for a new version of mp.
I would be very happy with mp when even version 1.0 would come out... (w. included Touchscreen support, of course)

Hi Stahlwolle

I think what the developers have been trying to say to us is that cool new features like touchscreen are dependent on first getting a new version. Media Portal ones infrastructure was to clunky to keep implementing new features.

I really like the idea of a stable module based MPII core thingy.
It doesnt have to be fancy ... just stable and scalable.
