Hi,
Im wanting to try Media Portal because it seems to have all the features I want Vista Media Centre to have. Ive been running VMC stabily for ~6 months on the current setup.

The problem is I cant get TV to display through MP, and if that doesn't work then I cant use it at all. I have:
1. Installed Media Portal 0.2.3.0
2. Install the MP SVN build above
3. Install SQL express and other pre-reqs
4. Install latest (same version as MP) TVE3 Server/Client
5. Configured SQL database (all OK)
6. Ran the TV server config and scanned channels (found them all) and tried the IPv6 and IPv4 of my NIC as the master server
7. Configured MP to the same hostname or IP, tried both ways.

When I fire up MP, the same problem has occurred no matter what Ive tried. I goto My TV, it sees all the channels (EPG data slowly fills if I leave it there too), but I try to watch any, it pauses for about 10 seconds, and goes back the the menu. NOTHING I have tried has gotten TV to display through media portal. I have tried using the FFDshow and Microsoft MPEG codecs for both audio and video, no luck... I do have a few VMC plugins, webguide, MCEbuddy, etc. loaded. Unless there is a known problem please dont ask me to uninstall them as I need VMC running properly until I can fully test MP.

If you need more information let me know, MP seems to have all I want, but the TV setup is driving me crazy, Ive spent about 4 hours on it so far with no luck.

Can you try with the MPV\MPA codecs, see if these make a difference.

Then use MPTestTool from the Start menu to reproduce the problem and upload logs using advanced + feature.

Check your codecs are fine with Filmerit.
Upload Logs\Pictures etc, use the "Go Advanced" and select the + feature to upload\attach files.

Showing signal as 0, does preview work in TVserver config\Channels, disable the analogue under server name if not using, just untick box.

ps you have not got 120dpi set as the font size in windows, so everything is bigger.

Disabling the analogue part of the card did nothing, I had tested that before.

The preview also worked 4/5 times, the 5th it said no video stream found. However the signal at my place is good, but not great (glitch in the picture every 5-10 mins is normal). Picture and sound were fine when it displayed. I have tried about 50 times in MP so I dont think its just that it couldnt find the signal as I clicked it.

I should set 120dpi? I thought I read I shouldnt have 120dpi set

Also, and I think this is the key, I noticed on one attempt, and I remember it happening in previous attempts, DGIndex has crashed, A quick google shows its a MPEG2 streamer, and therfore I think thats the key to the problems Im having. It didnt crash every time, just once on the tests above (when in MP) but it has in the last couple of days. Anything I can try and fix here?

Yes bad, just checking

Never heard of this referring to anything with MP, might be worthwhile running filmerit, would be interested to know how many filters you have, besides any possible errors.

Hi,

In the past I had tried a fair few codec packs and such, then I removed them all and just use the latest FFDshow tryouts.

However, from what your saying its very possible that the old stuff wasnt cleared out properly, Ill check that tonight.

Thanks

Hi,

I ran the program and it found two errors in subtitle filters, I think they were to do with my cards PVR software that came bundled with the card (and now uninstalled) and no luck in MP...

Problem fixed!

VMR9 causes the problems, switching to EMR under the direct show filter settings and it all works with a number of decoders.

Yay! thanks for your help

Hmmm, should work with vmr9 as well, either with or without exclusive mode enabled, may not be as good a picture. but playable.

Hope this is nothing to do with SP1 not playing nicely, as i've had problems since updating with drivers stopping working correctly.

Might be worthwhile downloading the latest Directx end user update, just to make sure nothings corrupted.

I have SP1 RC2 still on that machine Im pretty sure.

Either way, EMR looks good, is working well so far, so I might continue on my MP testing...

Oh and it glitches the picture instead of pausing like VMC, thats a plus in my opinion (neither program can help that I dont have perfect signal)
