TV - HTPC Connection:

I installed SQLExpress fine. I can connect to it, even from other machines. However, When I run SetupTV.exe, I don't even get the screen where it asks me the settings for SQL Server. I just get an error that says:

Unable to create database: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. Whnen connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by blah blah doesnt allow remote connections blah blah.

Anyway, remote connections are turned on. I checked at least a 1/2 dozen times, and as I mentioned, I can connect to the SQL server instance from another pc. I looked through all the documentation, but can't find any solution.....

any thoughts?

Is the user you are connecting with a user with SA credentials in the SQL Server? If not it will not be able to create a database!

I was under the impression that in order for the TvService to run, the setup had to be configured. Also, the issue with SA being setup as a user in the DB, it is. I used sa as the user and pass. Also, I never even see the screen that is supposed to ask for my sql server config info. I assume you see that screen right after install, after you run setuptv. Oh well.

hi again
the tvservice is using a database in the sql server for configuration etc - named tvlibrary. the config program users pr default the sa user (which pr. default not is permitted login in the SQL database because of security reasons) - you can eitehr permit sa to login anyway or add a new user and assign this user SA permissions. As far as I can guess will the config prgram create the tvlibrary database and the internal structure in it before launching the tvengine service. If you wan't to try to re-install the whole application suite then just remove the tvlibrary database (if this shoud exist - if I guess right you are not that far in the installation) - remove the mediaportal tvengine with the "add remove programs" utility and then should you be able to re-isntall it
