Hi, i've managed to get the client connected to the server, it sees the TV Guide etc. When I try to watch a channel the server starts timeshifting it, but it doesn't stream on the client. No video is shown.

SQLBrowser is set to auto
SQL Remote connections is enabled
Both firewalls are off.

Any ideas?

check out the mediapotal/logs directory.
To keep the logs to the point, start MP go straight to try and watch TV. then close MP and attach the log files here (zipped).

some other things to check (I had this issue for a while):
Make sure the server is configured with the right IP address. -on mine, another process had set up a dummy IP and MP was using this one to stream. MAke sure it truly reflects your LAN IP.
Try different codecs. on mine, some give me what you are reporting.

Slight progress after reinstalling MP again, it is showing the stream... although its is very very very corrupted and unwatchable. Even in VLC. It's not a recording problem, and the stream works fine on the host PC in VLC. So its either a network problem (possible because i'm on a funny network here. I have a wireless network with a VPN running over it due to the uni system, and the client is hooked up to the host via a wired lan. Can it be a codec problem? VLC has all the codecs installed by default doesn't it, so surely they will be using the same codec to decode the same stream..?

I'd post the logs but the client has essentially frozen atm, i'll try and post some logs in a bit, just thought i'd keep you informed....

P.S I have a dual boot of linux on the client so I'm gonna try VLC in it now....
P.P.S Not working at all in linux, cannot open stream... strange.

P.S. I think I may have found a possible problem looking at those logs. WMP9 is installed! WMP10 is a requirement of mediaportal it seems, so i'll upgrade and report back.
P.P.S Doesn't seem to help...

Solution:

I didn't realise that you could assign the IP to be used for streaming on mediaportal, changed the IP to the local LAN IP and everything works perfectly! Thanks for the help anyway, and hopefully someone will see this if they have problems!
