Have you tried completely disabling standby, reboot, re-enable?

Check the local policy:
Start>Run>gpedit.msc>User Configuration>Administrative Templates>Control Panel>Display In the right hand pane look at the "Password protect the screen saver option"

Your PC has never been domain-joined with a group policy has it?

This should be only a per user setting so if it came to it you could rename the user profile in c:\documents and settings\ then next you log on with the user it will re-create a clean profile.

Cheers,
mcraenz

Default strange changes in power options

Same issue here:
hint: I have german XP-pro, so my translation of configuraton options may be inaccurate.
In 'power options' I uncheck the box 'password on resume' AND I also have selected 'never' at 'switch off monitor'.
When I start MP and view a TV channel, switch TV off, then both settings are changed to 'require password' and switch off monitor after 20Min. idle.
This does not happen, if I yust start MP - only if TV is viewed.
Both settings are very annoying, because there is no way to enter a password with a remote AND also the picture is switched off after 20 minutes while watching TV.
I uninstalled Catalyst (yust driver installed) tried different decoders (video/audio), also tried to disable PowerSheduler but it does not change anything.
Most interesting is that these settings seem to be somehow temporarely. When rebooting the system, the setting are OK - even if I did not correct them before. Viewing TV changes the setting again.
I have MP & TVE (both latest releases, but issue also seen with previous releases), AMD Dual Core, X1200 (builtin graphic).
This happens with both users (administrator and poweruser(made for using MP))
I also checked the policies - all settings in the desktop folder show 'not set'

Did you try changing the option in Power Options, then shut down the computer. Restart and the try the standby ?

Just a wild guess

Hi Furetto,

yes, if I have set the power options to what I want, then restart computer, send it to suspend and wake it up again then it works as expected. As soon as I view TV with MP ( just switch TV on and off) the power options settings are changed.
WakeUp after suspend needs a password and 'monitor off' is set to 20 mins.

btw. this does not happen on another pc with Intel CPU

Since I never standby my computer I don't have much experience.

Two last suggestions:
  • experiment a bit with the settings in the General part, stuff like "Blank Screen in fullscreen mode" etc
  • maybe post logs from when it is happening, somebody might discover something interesting in those logs that would explain why TV changes these settings

Not much help, I know...

Are you running "amd cool and quiet" has been known to have some strange effects, either download the latest driver or the amd dual core optimizer (incorporated in latest driver), either may solve any issue with standby from that point.

Have you disabled "Hotkeys" i think it's called, associated with the ATI driver as this has power option, may be responding to a keypress that activates TV.

Regards

Exclamation is this the solution ?

@Paranoid Delusion
this seems to go into the right direction, 'yes' I have "amd cool and quiet" installed, but it's already the latest.
And 'no' there are no hotkeys because Catalyst is not even installed.

BUT - interesting test results:
before I did more tests about this issue I first tried to solve my flashing preview issue with purevideo. For that I uninstalled the ATI drivers and then installed the older release 8.353.0.0 (march). Actually it did not solve the flashing but the changes in power option setting are gone.
I tried a lot of different procedures to reproduce the issue with no success. So I have no idea why , but changing to the old x1250 ATI driver (pure driver, no catalyst) apparently solves the problem.

@Furetto
your suggested tests were the second point on my agenda - but since the issue is gone...

@project2501
autologon is something different - it does not work on wake up from suspend.

@No1Daemon
Can you crosscheck the solution ? You have the same chipset on you mobo. On amd's website there is only a release 8.351 (catalyst 7.3) so, if you want the 8.353 mail to gregor.verweyen@gmx.de
btw. did you by chance play with NVIDIAs purevideo decoder ? Does TV preview also flash when accelleration is switched on ?

Thanks for all suggestions.

Exclamation Additional Info

Today I tested different ATI drivers - here is the result:
Catalyst 7.10, 7.9, 7.8 and 7.7 show the problem with changing 'Power Option' settings.
The release 7.6 works fine.
It is not hanging together with Catalyst Hotkeys enabled or disabled.
The strange behaviour comes just with the VGA drivers installed that come with the above mentioned Catalyst releases.

The Power Options change as soon as a TV channel is viewed (switch TV on and off).
I found that Option Password on wakeup from suspend is checked and switch monitor off after 20 mins.
With drivers from 7.6 the Opwer Options remain unchanged.

May be developers can have a look, why this happens.

This is not limited to MediaPortal. I found this Thread saying that FusionHDTV is also suffering.
