Default Distributed TV Servers

Heres a quick question.. can I have multiple tv servers? ie one machine recording digital channels and another machine with different cards in it? And have them both deliver content to different client machines on my network?

Network Setup - multiple TV-Servers

NOTE: THIS HAS BEEN DISSABLED FOR 1.0 RELEASE BECAUSE OF TOO MANY ISSUES

aah - I was hoping to have 2 pc's on my network one each with a tv card... I was hoping that both boxes would use their local card, but if I wanted to record 2 things at once, then they would check the other box and use it's tuner if required... I though that this was possible using the multiple tv servers option, but I guess not (for now)...

Will this be added back into 1.0 later on as we get through the release candidates towards a point release, or will it simply not feature until MP2 comes out (if at all)?

There are too few (if any at all) devs/testers that have configs to keep uptodate testing on this multi-server single databse .

There was a thread with details of what bugs and problems did occur, give it a read .

I would expect the issues to be revisited at some time in the future but no lead time has been set for this, there are more pressing priorites to address which affect more MP users.

I also would really like to experiment with this - ie, one server with my main DVB-T cards in it, and a slave server tucked away with the DVB-S cards in it.
Is there any way it can be flagged back on for 'testing' or can I get involved with testing it for the project? - I can't find a thread relating directly to the decision to disable it

You can install all that cards in one server. Why do you want to make two servers with one card in each server ?

I can't do that. My main (prefered) HTPC is a Acer Aspire Idea500, which is a SSFF (Super Small Form Factor) machine.
It's excellect as a HTPC, but lacks expansion capability, ie for the addition of PCI cards. it does however have twin built in DVB-T Analog Hybrid tuners, which work really well with MP.

I realiase I could simply have a server elsewhere, and not use the cards in the Aspire, but it seems a waste, as they are good tuners, but are micro-pci (laptop style) cards, and hence can't be moved to another machine.

Gordon.

Accepted, but why would I want pull the Aspire apart, and move the cards to another machine with adapters? - If I want to go down that route I could buy DVB-T pci cards for not much more than the price of the adapters, and be done with it.. (which I may well do).

spreading the load across several 'servers' would also help relive the need for PCI slots, as most of the machines I have at my disposal only have 2 or three PCI slots, and I have no desire to go down the USB route...

I completely understand what you mean, I was just being cheeky

I love the idea of distributed servers, I just don't think it is a feature that is needed by very many people, and with only a few poeple testing it fixing bugs becomes more and more difficult. I don't think any of the developers have a multi-server setup either.
