I have followed the video tutorials to the letter, and when it comes to running mediaportal tv server I get the "failed to create database" error.

all sql services are running
made sure I set MS sql 2005 authentication mode to mixed mode and set a password
my gentle.config file has looks like this:

<DefaultProvider name="SQLServer" connectionString="Password=sa;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=sa;Initial Catalog=TvLibrary;Data Source=HTPC\SQLEXPRESS;"

datasource was set to nothing, doesn't work either way

thanks for any help, i've tried everything, gone back to older builds of tvserver, still no joy

Hi link 1896!

yes i have solved my problem

Please take a look in the setup of SQL ...
1) sql server browser/ service - is startet and set to auto
2) SQL database engine - is set to "allow tcp/ip" / activ

Both settings you'll find in "SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration"
// START/Programs/microsoft SQL ... /konfigurationstools/
Unfortunately, i have a German xp version. I hope menues are conform.

have you disabled the firewall on VIsta, or atleast opened up the ports required?

If you open SQL Server Management studio and enter the creditials, Do you see a database called TvLibrary under the databases folder?

If so maybe try deleting it and try starting TV Setup again.

Also have you tried a reboot?

your above test confirms that there is no comms problem for SQL server on the stand alone machine and that TV Server has not hit the DB yet.

what TV Server SVN are you trying to install? (maybe go back a few days from the version you have downloaded if it is the latest)

I am assuming that when you get the setup screen for all the credentials and click test button all the text boxes are green?

make sure credentials are correct, case sensitve and if you use numpad numbers in assigning password, than use them again for setting credientials (stranger things have happened).

I would now suggesting posting your full logs on here, everything looks OK for the TV server side of things.

from the SQL management window, can you create a database with the "sa" user account. That's the only last thing I can think of. Maybe create a new account just for the TV Server with full rights, although sa should have them already.

Is the SQL services running as administrator rights. I don;t have vista myself but could this be an issue with creating new database files?
