Hi,
I just upgraded to ATI catalyst 8.9 to see if several problems with previous versions (flickering video with live TV, crashes if PDVD7 HWacc enabled,...) had gone. See other posts here in the forum.

While playing around I noticed that above probs still seemed to be present, but I noticed that the TV picture looked especially blocky after short freezes, just like antenna signal dropouts or video stream errors. So I had the idea to record a short part of the live TV stream in .ts format and to play it back in different players:

MP: Same effect, short freezes and occasionally blocky picture (as observed during live TV), but....

PDVD7: Everything plays smooth, and there is NO problem with picture freezes, etc. , even with HWacc enabled !
Media Player Classic (using PDVD7 Decoder): Everything is playing smooth, as with PDVD7.

So I think that something is wrong with reading ts files from within MP. My assumption further is that ATI's video driver behaves less fault tolerant when HWacc is enabled, which leads to the frequent crashes with MP in this mode. Using PDVD7 or MPC I didn't experience any stability problems so far - with both SDTV and HDTV.

Anyone out there with similar observations?
Can I do something to help find the problems?
