Now i hope i will be forgiven here for being a moron or some such other, but i have been trying to set up MP for weeks now and every time i try to do something it just doesn't work. It is mostly working but i still have a couple of real pains to get working. BTW i Love MP its GREAT it is potentially the best Media system out there but "How To Guides" etc are just too damn simplistic to follow. You assume that most people doing this are all familiar with compuspeak and phrases that are specific to your hobby. which leads me to my problems. I know this is free and i know this is a big ask, but if you ever want to be spoken about in the same breath as "MI****oft" you have to understand that we are all thick out here!!

Problem 1

No audio on TV client. pictur great Client is a laptop with vista business SP1
works ok with MP TV Client
Works OK with VLC RTSP

Problem 2

EPG cant get it to work from ANY internet etc system

Please How do i set it up
what is a .dtd file
have i got one
do i have to make one
How do i make one
is there an automation system to make it work.
Do i need to activate WEBepg, xlmtv on all clients
what is a URL for epg data preferably free.

In other words how about a step by step visual guide for some of these things, words are great but if it doesnt look the same as its shown you know you've got a problem as it is the guides are very short.

Sorry if i sound miffed, but this is such a good piece of software that if you lose sight of the idiots like me then they will end up back a MS products cause they are almost idiot proof.

Best regards

Alan

The .dtd file is already present in the xmltv folder, so you have only to write the tvguide.xml in this place and that's all...

Hi Simone

Will check codec , but i thought if it worked with MP TV client, it would in MP....am i wrong?

I have found a file .dtd in the xmltv folder under MP directory, but do you mean i need to rename it or copy / paste info in to it .
I have also got a file this called TVguide.xml.

Nothing shows in either the TVsever setup (Xmltv) plugin section. or in the EPG with in the MP interface.
Also the TVserver plugin shows a "Last Downloaded" time and date but neither the "Status" or "Program's imported"
show anything??

Help, i am a moron!!

Regards

Alan

Please read TV-Server/config-XmlTv - MediaPortal Wiki Documentation.

I know what you mean, Knightstalke, but don't give up.

For my part I had webepg working fine when I was running just MP. Now I have TV server I am having difficulties. It does not help when the "import channel data" does not seem to allow import from the TV server and so I have to manually add the channels!. I am confused about whether I should configure XMLTV in MP client as well as in TV server or whether I need to enable the webepg grabber plugin in MP client. I will crack it eventually but I need time when the family is not using it.

For now I am using the DVB epgguide which works ok.

Hi Mike

Thanks for your support, i know (once again) that this is free, but some of us just dont get all of the things that Programmer etc take for granted... I speak to my clients clients all over the world with regard to exhibition stand construction regulations in the uk, i cannot assume they know what "NECDSCert"means i have to assume they dont understand my terminology and explain in simple phrses or parrallells so they get it. I am still working on it, in fact the thread about MP EPG importer is most helpful he has done a PDF in a step by step setup you know like 1 do this , 2 Do this etc take a look you might find his PDF file useful BTW if you post him ask if he knows the UK radio times URL

Cheers again for your support, i just wish the devs didnt think were getting at them coz as i have already said this MP is really smoking and could go all the way if enough people use it, and most of them are likely to be like me.......THICK!

Cheers

Alan
