| TV-Server Version: RC3 MediaPortal Version: RC3 Windows Version: XP Professional (on a Domain) I have one machine up and running perfectly... I'm very impressed with RC3, and I wanted to put it on a second machine with identical hardware. I used Ghost to copy the drive from the first to the second machine, which presented its own problems (NTLDR and Boot.ini missing). I found a solution for that, and I renamed the computer so that it could join our domain. Everything seems to be up and running well, except for TVServer. I've found and changed the following values: -SQL-Server settings point to the new machine name "xxxx\SQLServerExpress" -in the database, I changed dbo.Server.HostName to "xxxx" -in MP Configuration, I changed Television > TV Client > TV-Server Hostname to "xxxx" Currently, if I try to open TV-Server Configuration, I get the message "The TV service is not running. Start it now?". Choosing "no", configuration doesn't open, and choosing "yes", I get a dialog that says "TvService not started." Once configuration opens, I can see the new machine name under "TV Servers"; but, it doesn't show any cards being present. If I click on the entry under "TV Servers", I get the "TvService not started" message again; but, this time, the dialogs keep coming back until I use Task Manager to kill the process. Can anyone tell me what I've missed? Or, is there a way to just reinstall the TVEngine? Any help would really be appreciated... I'm hoping to get this working without reinstalling MediaPortal entirely. Thanks in advance, Scott |

Country: | The problem I found with renaming your computer is with SQL, I think I had to delete the Mediaportal Database folder and then reconfigure your SQL (I am no expert in this at all by the way). My next question is do you want a.) 2 standalone systems or b.) a Server/Client and Client a.) as above b.) you dont need TV server or SQL installed on the second machiene, you do need the Mediaportal TV service plugin and enter the Server/Client IP in the MediaPortal config of the client. The thing I learnt is before you install TVservice/MySQL make sure your happy with the computer name ![]() |

| I'm guessing that I decided to forge ahead at about the same time that canarygsr was posting the reply above... I'm trying to get two standalone machines... one of them is pretty well owned by my children, and I don't want all four tuners tied up recording kids' shows :-) Here's what I've done so far: 1) Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Uninstall TV Server and Client. (I chose "No" when it asked if I wanted to do a COMPLETE uninstall) 2) I realized I could extract the files from the RC3 installer. (The TVEngine installer ends up in a subdirectory called "deploy") 3) I installed the TVEngine/Client... so far, everything seems to be going well. Both tuners are running the channel scan as I type this, and I have high hopes that I'm on my way. And yes, I can see that renaming the machine is not a good idea after MP is installed; but, there were so many little tweaks involved that I was truly hoping to get both machines installed "for the price of one". As it stands, I think my approach was a lot easier than installing two from scratch; but, I guess I should've made the Ghost image after all the codecs were installed (I used Goose's guide), but before installing MP. I'm still hoping someone will have a full answer for the question, though... I'm sure canarygsr and I aren't the only two that have run up against this issue, and I doubt we'll be the last. I'll post a follow-up if my approach leads to any unexpected problems. I've also kept a log of what I've done along the whole route, and I should have that up on my website in the next few days. Setting up an HTPC always seems like it's going to be a simple venture; but, it seems there are ALWAYS things to learn and issues to research. Thanks Again, Scott |
