Country: | I read on wikipedia that some HTPC users put their OS on a flashdrive to lower heat, power consumption and noise... Has anyone here tried that and be willing to share the results?

Country: | I guess they mean Solide State Discs. They are reckognized as real harddrives and have SATA connection. They are perfect for HTPC but still expensive (10-20 €/GB!!!) If you have the money you can give a try... You can use a flash drive for Timeshift to reduce HD-usage though (but it will die fast because of the frequent read-write cycles). I think you cannot install XP or Vista onto a "normal" flash drive. So finally it is still better to buy a good old harddrive (maybe throttle a little bit to get it quiet - but slower) |
