Hi and welcome!

I guess you mean a set top box (STB). I use this myself - connected to a analog TV-card (s-video) - so you do need a TV-card (unless you eg. have a Dreambox).

Channel changing can be done using IR-blasters.

Please supply more information about your STB.

Yes, you can use EPG (electronic program guide) with STBs.

You do, however, need IR blasters to make STB change channel channels.

I am sorry, but it is rather difficult to understand what you want/ask for/write...

acreilaat,

My understanding is that you whant to import the EPG data from yout STB to MP. If that's the case, no you can't do it. What you can do is:

- Make MP tune the STB for you trough a blaster. Video would come trough a analog card. EPG data should come trough other methods (XMLTV, Zap2It, etc).

- If your Cable provider uses DVB, you might use a DVB card to dirrectly tune your TV without the STB. That way you would get the EPG right from the cable/sat, but you are not using the STB anymore. Keep in mind that using DVB with pay TV without proper support from the provider can be tricky.

an IR blaster is just an IR transmitter that can change your set top boxes channel for you.

I would suggest that you try to set up media portal, it might be easier than you think.
